Jammu, Jul 8: 4 women were arrested on the charge of drug peddling in Samba district on Saturday, a senior police officer said.According to Senior Superintendent of Police (Samba) Benam Tosh, the alleged drug dealers were driving from Kathua to Samba in a car when they were stopped and taken into custody at Supwal along the Jammu-Pathankot national route.
He named the apprehended suspects as Salima Bibi of Vijaypur, Gunna Bibi of Sidhra, and Saleema alias “Bachi” of Bari Brahmana.Saleema was one of the most sought-after drug dealers operating in the Samba, Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Rajouri, Poonch, Ramban, Doda, and Kishtwar districts, the official said, adding that her arrest represents a significant victory for the police as she had been eluding them for a considerable amount of time.Due to organised searches and increased police patrolling, Saleema had relocated her hiding place from Balole Nallah in Bari Brahmana to the Sidhra neighbourhood of Jammu, he claimed.
The police have detained 58 heroin suppliers in total during the last six months, including 12 women, according to the officer.According to the strict Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, two ardent heroin suppliers have also been apprehended and imprisoned.
A person may be held in preventative detention for a year without bail under the PTI NDPS Act.
