Women’s Reservation Act a ‘Dream Come True’ for Women: Darakshan Andrabi

SRINAGAR: BJP leader and J&K Waqf Board chairperson Darakshan Andrabi on Monday termed the passage and implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act amendments as an inspiring step, saying it would be a “dream come true” for women across the country.

Speaking on the sidelines of a party function, Andrabi welcomed the move and congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that it would ensure greater participation of women in law-making bodies.

“This is an inspiring step for us. It will be a dream come true for women to be partners in framing laws,” she said.

The remarks come in the backdrop of the Centre’s plan to implement the law enacted in 2023, which provides 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The Prime Minister recently stated that the Budget session of Parliament has been extended to facilitate steps towards its implementation.

According to reports, Parliament is set to reconvene on April 16 after a brief recess to consider key measures, including increasing the number of Lok Sabha seats, aimed at enabling the rollout of the reservation policy.

Andrabi said the move reflects the government’s commitment to women empowerment, adding that what could not be achieved in decades has been made possible in recent years. She expressed confidence that the number of women lawmakers will significantly rise in Parliament and state assemblies.

Commenting on the political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir, Andrabi said the Bharatiya Janata Party has emerged as a stronger force in the Union Territory and will continue to grow further.

Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur said the party remains guided by principles of nationalism, democracy, Gandhian socialism and value-based politics. He added that efforts are ongoing to boost industries, generate employment and strengthen the country’s economy.

Thakur also congratulated party workers and urged them to remain committed to public welfare and the vision of a stronger, inclusive and self-reliant India.
