KATHUA: J&K Police Kathua, under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua, Mohita Sharma, successfully conducted a 2-day basic firing practice programme for VDG (Village Defence Group) members and SOG personnel.
The training was held under the close supervision of DySP SOG Bani and SHO Police Station Bani.
During the training, supervisory officers provided hands-on guidance on:
Proper handling and use of arms and ammunition
Safe loading and unloading procedures
Aiming and firing techniques
Routine weapon maintenance and cleaning
Ensuring enhanced vigilance during duties
Additionally, VDG members were familiarized with field craft tactics including movement techniques such as crawling, rolling, buddy-pair coordination, and cover fire. The exercise aimed at building confidence, improving firing skills, and strengthening coordination with security forces. A large number of VDG members along with SOG personnel participated in the training activity.
SSP Kathua directed the officers to ensure strict adherence to all weapon safety rules and regulations throughout the training. She emphasized that such exercises are crucial for rejuvenating VDGs and strengthening their role as the “First Line of Defense” in remote and vulnerable areas.
