SRINAGAR, Feb 24: On Saturday, the strategically important Jammu-Srinagar highway opened to two-way traffic after the government set the plying time. The Jammu-Srinagar highway is open for two-way travel today, according to traffic department authorities. However, vehicles heading to the Kashmir Valley must transit Nagrota by 2 p.m., and those heading to Jammu must cross Qazigund by 3 p.m. Officials said that “no vehicle will be allowed to move on the highway from either side after the scheduled timings.” The Jammu-Srinagar national highway serves as the landlocked Valley’s lifeline for supplies because it is used to transport essentials including food, medication, petroleum goods, vegetables, meat, and poultry items. The roads connecting Srinagar and Leh, the Mughal Road, Sinthan and Kishtwar, Bandipora and Gurez, and Kupwara and Tangdhar are still blocked by snow and inaccessible to vehicles.
