JAMMU: A traffic police sub-inspector in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district has been placed under suspension pending an inquiry for allegedly misusing his official vehicle to shoot a social media reel on the snow-covered Mughal Road, officials said.
According to traffic officials, Sub-Inspector Gul Sheraz, posted as Sector Officer (Traffic) on Mughal Road, was seen in a viral video protruding from the open front door of a moving vehicle near snow-laden Pir Ki Gali. The act sparked serious safety concerns given the hazardous road and weather conditions in the area.The incident drew widespread criticism and raised questions over professional conduct and adherence to traffic safety norms. Following the episode, Assistant Sub-Inspector Anil Kumar has been deployed as the new Sector Officer (Traffic) on Mughal Road, while Sheraz has been directed to report to the Traffic Police Lines, Rural Jammu, with immediate effect.
The SSP Traffic (Rural) Jammu has ordered a departmental inquiry into the incident, to be conducted by the DSP (Traffic), Rajouri–Poonch.
Reiterating a strict stance, SSP Farooq Qaiser said there is zero tolerance for violations of the Motor Vehicles Act or traffic safety norms, whether by civilians or traffic police personnel. He added that stringent action will be taken against anyone found compromising public safety
