Traders Federation Demands Special Relief Package for Flood-Affected Jammu

JAMMU: The Traders Federation, Ware House Nehru Market, representing the voice of Jammu’s traders and citizens, today urged the government to provide urgent relief and support to the people still struggling in the aftermath of the catastrophic rains and floods of August 26.

Addressing a press conference at the Federation office, President Deepak Gupta highlighted the extensive losses suffered during the floods, which left thousands homeless, claimed lives, and destroyed livestock. While appreciating the efforts of the government and local volunteers during the crisis, he criticized the administration for delays in relief and rehabilitation work.

Gupta drew attention to the collapsed Bhagwati Nagar Fourth Bridge, which remains unrepaired nearly two months after the floods, and demanded an inquiry into the delay. He also raised concerns over flood-damaged roads, including Panjtirthi-Sidhra Road and Manda Road, questioning why critical infrastructure remains unattended while roads are swiftly repaired for VVIP visits.

Appealing to LG Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, he urged immediate action to restore infrastructure and provide relief to affected citizens.

In addition, Gupta emphasized the importance of supporting local markets during the festive season, urging residents to buy Make-in-India products and patronize neighborhood shops instead of online foreign platforms.

The Federation also made a direct appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce an urgent financial aid package for the flood-hit region. Gupta stated,

“Our farmers’ fields are destroyed, livestock lost, and thousands of homes along the Tawi River have collapsed. Thousands are still struggling for basic necessities. We urge the Hon’ble Prime Minister to provide immediate assistance to help the people of Jammu rebuild their lives.”
Expressing faith in the government, the Federation concluded on an optimistic note, trusting that the Prime Minister and his administration will soon announce significant relief measures for Jammu.

The press conference was also attended by Dheeraj Mahajan, Sr. Vice President; Vishal Gupta, Vice President; Abhimanyu Gupta, Vice President; Rahul Gupta, General Secretary; Nitish Gupta, Cashier and other Federation members.
