SRINAGAR, Aug 19: Police in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir have arrested a teenage girl for allegedly murdering her 14-year-old younger sister, officials said today.
The minor’s body was found near her home at Shepora Ganderbal on Sunday morning, sparking anger and protests in the area.
Following the outrage, police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and registered a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Forensic teams also collected samples from the crime scene.
Locals said the victim was last seen with her elder sister shortly before the murder.
During questioning, the elder sibling confessed to hitting her sister with a stick after an argument, an official privy to the investigation said.
“While leaving their home, the two sisters had an argument, during which the elder one struck her sibling with a stick, causing her death,” an official said.
“We have arrested the elder sister in connection with the case.”
