BENGALURU: A couple from nearby Tamil Nadu was detained after they pretended to be in an accident in order to demand money before stealing a truck carrying 2.5 tonnes of tomatoes.According to police, the Vellore pair was a member of a group of highway robbers who stopped Mallesh from Hiriyur in the Chitradurga district on July 8 at Chikkajala and demanded payment, alleging that his truck had collided with their vehicle. On July 8, the gang beat the farmer and forced him out of the truck after he refused to pay them. They then drove off with the truck, which was carrying 2.5 tonnes of tomatoes valued over 2.5 lakhs. The RMC Yard police followed the movement of the car and identified the gang as a result of the farmer’s allegation.
