SRINAGAR: Amid the prevailing situation, Srinagar Police on Friday issued a public advisory urging media organisations, social media users and the general public to exercise responsibility while sharing information on digital platforms.
In a statement shared on social media, the police asked people to refrain from publishing or circulating unverified information, speculation or rumours. Authorities stressed that all reports should be confirmed through credible and authoritative sources before being disseminated.The advisory warned that the circulation of rumours, misinformation or unverified content could create unnecessary panic, disturb public order and adversely affect communal harmony in the district.
Police also cautioned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals or entities found spreading misinformation or rumours under the relevant provisions of law.
The advisory further urged citizens to cooperate with authorities and contribute towards maintaining peace, order and harmony. Kashmir Police reiterated the importance of responsible communication, especially during sensitive situations, to ensure public safety and stability.
