Slain circus worker’s wife gets govt job; LG assures all help to family

JAMMU: J&K LG Manoj Sinha on Wednesday handed over an appointment letter to the wife of circus worker Deepu Kumar who was gunned down by terrorists in Anantnag district last month.The victim’s family, who reside in a remote village in the Udhampur district in extreme poverty, had been promised Rs 5 lakh ex gratia by the lieutenant governor. On May 29, Kumar, a 27-year-old employee of a circus in the Janglat Mandi neighbourhood of the south Kashmir district, was slain while walking to the store to purchase milk. Five terrorists affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were reportedly detained in Anantnag on June 16 in relation to the slaying, according to the Jammu and Kashmir police. An official spokeswoman announced that Sakshi Devi, the wife of martyred civilian Deepu Kumar, had received an employment letter to a government position at Raj Bhawan today.According to him, the Lt. Governor promised the grieving family members all the help and support they could ask for. In the isolated Thial village of Udhampur, Kumar’s wife gave birth to a boy a week after he was killed. In the family, which also included his blind brother Raju, sister-in-law, and their two young children, as well as his sick father Mashu Ram, Kumar was the only source of income. Over ten years prior, the family relocated from Kathua to the isolated settlement. Recently, Kumar’s mother passed away. While his father has hearing loss, his older brother Raju lost his sight almost four years ago.
