JAMMU, Nov 27: Prodigious Indian para archer Sheetal Devi won the Best Youth Athlete of the Year title at the Asian Awards 2023 in Riyadh on Saturday, November 25, adding to her growing list of firsts. The 16-year-old won the laurel and made history as the first Indian athlete to do so. Sheetal is the first female archer to compete internationally without the use of arms, according to World Para Archery. But she’s not just competing. In a fantastic debut season, the teenager is taking home medals from major competitions.Sheetal shot to national prominence after winning three medals at the Asian Para Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China, after taking home the silver medal at the World Para Archery Championships earlier this year in Pilsen, Czech Republic. She was the first Indian woman to win two gold medals at the Asian Para Games in the same edition of the competition with her two gold medals.
