UDHAMPUR: Security forces on Friday launched a large-scale cordon and search operation in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district following reports of suspicious movement, officials said.
The joint search operation—being carried out by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF—is currently underway in the Chigla-Balotha area of the Basantgarh belt.
Basantgarh lies along a traditional infiltration route frequently used by Pakistani terrorists entering from the International Border in Kathua and traversing the mountainous terrain toward Doda and Kishtwar before attempting to reach the Kashmir Valley. The region has witnessed several encounters and terror-related activities in previous years.
Officials said the operation was initiated after inputs indicated the presence of three suspected individuals moving through the Balotha area. Security forces swiftly cordoned off the location and intensified the search.
Further details are awaited as the operation remains in progress.
