SAMBA: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Samba Police have attached a residential property worth approximately ₹39.58 lakh belonging to a notorious drug peddler in the district.

The accused, identified as Masoom Ali alias Kala, a resident of Rakh Barotian in Vijaypur tehsil, had allegedly acquired the property through proceeds of illicit drug trade. The action was taken under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

Police said the house was identified as illegally acquired during the course of investigation, with prima facie evidence indicating it was funded through trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

Officials further revealed that the accused is a habitual offender and was previously booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in 2025. He is currently lodged in District Jail Udhampur.

Several cases under the NDPS Act have been registered against him at different police stations in the district, highlighting his continued involvement in drug-related activities.

Police described the action as part of a sustained campaign to dismantle drug networks by targeting illegally acquired assets and deterring future offenders. The operation was carried out by a special team led by the SHO of Vijaypur Police Station under the supervision of SDPO Vijaypur and overall guidance of the SSP Samba.

Local residents have welcomed the move, calling it a strong step against drug peddling in the region.
