New Delhi, Sept 1: According to a statement from the Union cabinet secretariat, President Droupadi Murmu has given his approval for the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) to become the Prime Ministers’ Museum.
According to the notification dated August 30, the words “Nehru Memorial Museum and Library” in entry 9 of the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961’s THE SECOND SCHEDULE, under the heading “Ministry of Culture (SANSKRITI MANTRALAYA),” shall be changed to “Prime Ministers Museum and Library.”In the middle of June, the NMML Society made the decision to change its name to the PMML Society.
According to the Culture Ministry, the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library Society will eventually take the place of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society.
The choice was decided at a special meeting of the Memorial Museum and Library Society, which was presided over by vice president and defence minister Rajnath Singh.
This project was approved by the Executive Council, NMML at its 162nd meeting, which was held in November 2016. The Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya opens to the public on April 21 of last year.The Nehru-Gandhi family was invited, however despite getting an invitation from the government, none of them showed up for the ceremony during the inauguration.
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi are three members of the Nehru-Gandhi family who have held the office of prime minister.
According to a statement made by the Culture Ministry, the Museum is a continuous amalgam that starts with the rebuilt and upgraded Nehru Museum building, which is “now completely updated with technologically advanced displays on the life and contribution of Jawaharlal Nehru“.The museum, which is housed in a brand-new structure, continues by describing how our Prime Ministers guided the country through a variety of difficulties and made sure that it advanced overall. It democratises the institutional memory by recognising all Prime Ministers, according to the press release.
