JAMMU, June 4: Poonch police today carried out searches at 60 locations of suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and surrendered terrorists across the border district and made some preventive arrests for questioning.Searches were part of crackdown on OGWs who have been helping terrorists to move from one place to another besides arranging food and other essential items for them.
“Some preventive detentions have been made during the searches,’’ the sources said, adding efforts are on to identify new OGWs who could be helping the terrorists in upper reaches of Rajouri and Poonch districts besides other areas.
Police identified locations of suspected persons and launched simultaneous raids.
Some material which may lead to identification and arrest of the OGWs has been seized during the searches, the sources said.There has been presence of foreign terrorists, mainly Pakistanis, in the upper reaches of twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri besides Doda, Kishtwar, Kathua and Udhampur.
During past couple of months, security forces have established contacts with the terrorists.
Security agencies believed that without help of OGWs, the terrorists can’t survive for long. And, in view of this, they have been trying to nab the OGWs also besides carrying out search operations to eliminate the terrorists.
