SRINAGAR, Oct. 23: Within two days of the crime, police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district apprehended a group of burglars and retrieved stolen goods valued at lakhs of rupees. Police said on Monday that on October 21, 2023, a resident of Kachipuran Khansahib named Aijaz Ahmad Ganie filed a written complaint with Police station Khansahib, claiming that on the intervening night of October 19 and 20, some thieves broke into his home and took gold items worth lakhs of rupees, high-end clothing, imitation jewellery, and copper utensils.Investigators began their work after the police filed a complaint under the applicable sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police detained a number of individuals for interrogation during the investigation, and they interrogated Farooq Ahmad Ganie, also known as Dil Jalay, in great detail. He admitted to being a part of the break-in during questioning, and he also disclosed the whereabouts of the stolen goods, which were quickly found to include gold objects, apparel, fake jewellery, and copper cookware.The suspect revealed the identities of his collaborators in similar thefts as the inquiry went on. Then Maqsood Ahmad Gojri of Soznipora and Asif Rashid Mir, alias “Ubaid,” who lived in Dabipora, were brought in for interrogation. After the two acknowledged their involvement in several theft cases, a variety of stolen items, valued at about 4-5 lakhs, were recovered. These items included laptops, desktop computers, LED screens, gas cylinders, sheep, copper utensils, inverters, batteries, generators, water motors, and pipes.According to the police, Showkat Ahmad Dar, a resident of Rawalpora Watrihail, was also detained in relation to his role as a recipient of stolen property. Three cases that were under investigation at Police Station Khansahib, police, have been settled by these arrests and the recoveries that followed. The investigations are ongoing, and further recoveries and arrests are anticipated soon.
