Srinagar, Sep 1: In Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla area this year, police detained 343 drug dealers, including 80 of the most sought, and attached property worth crores.
In addition to recovering contraband valued at crores (the value of contraband on the black market), 213 of the 343 drug smugglers have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychographic Substances (NDPS) Act, while 54 habitual drug dealers have been charged under PIT-NDPS/PSA, according to a police statement released on Friday.Additionally, the Baramulla Police has seized drug traffickers’ assets totaling Rs 2.1 crore, including 3 homes, 3 vehicles, and Rs 1.2 crore in cash, from the Pattan, Kreeri, Nambla, and Kamalkote regions.
In addition, the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (SAFEM) Forfeiture of Property (FOP) and NDPSA, New Delhi, confirmed the attachment of property (Illegally acquired property by Drug Smugglers) orders of the Baramulla Police at Pattan & Kreeri, where a house and a vehicle were attached.The Baramulla Police reaffirmed their resolve to take harsh action against drug traffickers and with regard to the attachment of personal property that has been raised or used for illegal trafficking by traffickers in the area.
In order to help them eliminate the drug threat from society, police have also asked the general populace of the district to come forward with information about drug dealers in their districts (identity will be kept confidential).
