NEW DELH, Jul 20: PM Modi on Thursday said the incident of women being paraded naked in Manipur has shamed 140 crore Indians, asserting that law will act with its full might and no guilty will be spared. He told reporters at the Parliament complex before the start of the Monsoon session that “my heart is full of pain and anger” despite criticism from the opposition parties for his silence regarding the ethnic violence in the BJP-ruled north-eastern state.
“I want to reassure my fellow citizens that no one will escape punishment. Law will exercise all of its strength and tenacity… There is no forgiveness for what has been done to these daughters of Manipur, he declared.According to him, the occurrence in the state has insulted the entire nation and the 140 crore citizens are feeling ashamed. It will bring disgrace to any civilised community.
After a May 4 video appeared on Wednesday showing two women from one of the warring factions in Manipur being paraded naked by a mob from the other side, tension increased in the region’s hills. The prime minister asked all chief ministers to take the toughest possible action, notably in situations of crimes against women, to further improve the law and order system in their respective states.
He also called for strengthening law and order and protecting women while mentioning places like Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. He said that people should put law and order, as well as respect for women, above political arguments.Targeting the opposition party, the BJP has been drawing attention to instances of crimes against women in states like Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh that are governed by the Congress.
Additionally, Modi urged lawmakers to use the session to have in-depth discussions on a number of proposals that are, in his opinion, in the best interests of the general public.
The prime minister stated that there are numerous proposed laws that are in the best interests of the country and various social groups, citing the measures on digital personal data protection, national research foundation, mediation, repealing and amending, and “jan vishwas.””I am confident that there will be serious discussions in Parliament,” he declared.
