NEW DELHI: National Unity Day is observed on the birth anniversary of India’s first home minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoured Patel with flowers at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat on Tuesday. At a ceremony at Kevadia, in the Narmada district, the prime minister gave the attendees the oath of unity. Modi saw the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) parade, which featured state police and Border Security Force contingents marching. Later, he would address the assembly and introduce many development initiatives totaling Rs 160 crore. On October 31, 2018, PM Modi unveiled the Sardar Patel-inspired Statue of Unity here. With a height of 182 metres, it is the tallest statue in the world.
