NEW DELHI, Feb 8: As he bid farewell to Rajya Sabha members who were retiring, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated Manmohan Singh’s legacy in the House on Thursday. According to Modi, Manmohan Singh used a wheelchair to cast his vote in the Rajya Sabha in order to support democracy. He complimented Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge for releasing a “black paper” criticising his government, calling it “kaala teeka” (to ward off the evil eye) in the midst of his government’s good performance, in a caustic jab at the Congress. The prime minister said, “We also saw a fashion parade in the Rajya Sabha when some members came in black clothes,” in reference to the opposition MPs’ black robes worn in the House as a symbol of protest. He wished everyone retiring the best of luck and expressed the hope that their experiences will be useful to future generations. After serving their whole terms, sixty-eight Rajya Sabha members will retire between February and May.
