PM Applauds J&K’s Sporting Rise, Ranji Triumph In Mann Ki Baat

JAMMU, Mar 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted India’s recent sporting achievements with a strong focus on Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the region is emerging as a hub of sporting talent. Speaking during his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, he said Team India’s victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup was a proud moment for the nation, while Jammu and Kashmir’s maiden Ranji Trophy win marked a historic milestone.
Referring to the Ranji final played in Hubballi, Karnataka, the Prime Minister said Jammu and Kashmir’s cricket team scripted history by clinching its first-ever title after nearly 7 decades. He also praised the outstanding performance of young pacer Aaqib Nabi, who took 60 wickets during the season, earning recognition across the country. Modi said the victory has generated excitement not only among players and coaching staff but also among the people of the Union Territory.
Highlighting the growing sports culture in Jammu and Kashmir, the Prime Minister said there is tremendous enthusiasm among the youth for various disciplines. He noted that Khelo India Winter Games have already established Gulmarg as a major destination for winter sports. He added that sports like football are also becoming increasingly popular among youngsters in the region, reflecting a positive and energetic shift towards sports and fitness.
