Pilot dies in bathroom of plane with 271 passengers onboard, co-pilot makes emergency landing

Aug – 17 : A commercial flight from Miami to Chile with 271 passengers had to make an emergency landing in Panama on Sunday night due to the sudden collapse of the captain in the lavatory. At after 11 p.m., Ivan Andaur, 56, the pilot of the LATAM Airlines flight to Santiago, suffered a serious heart attack, according to the Sun. The plane’s co-pilots made an emergency landing at Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport, where emergency medical services responded quickly to the situation.As the jet was landing, two doctors and a nurse by the name of Isadora raced to help the captain. He was not revived despite their best efforts. The pilot was identified as having passed away when the aircraft landed in Panama City. A co-pilot reportedly asked for any aboard doctors about 40 minutes into the flight, according to a passenger’s account. Because of the severity of the situation and Andaur’s deteriorating condition, it was decided to evacuate the aircraft after landing. As the flights restarted on Tuesday, travellers were provided with accommodations in hotels in Panama City. LATAM Airlines responded to the incident by stating that they adhere to established guidelines designed to protect lives throughout the journey. After landing, Ivan Andaur received immediate medical care, but tragically it was too late to save him. The LATAM Group offered its condolences to the pilot’s family and expressed its great sadness over the unfortunate incident.
