NEW DELHI: A chargesheet has been filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against two accused in the Jammu and Kashmir terror conspiracy case, which involves plans to disrupt communal harmony and peace in the Union Territory through acts of terror and violence. One of the accused is a national of Pakistan. The accused named on the charge sheet are Muhammad Dilawar Iqbal alias Maaz Khan Kashmiri alias Maaz Khan alias Maaz Kashmiri alias Azad Kashmiri, a resident of Abbaspur, Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), and Mohd Ubaid Malik of district Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir. The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code have been used to charge both of the accused.“The duo were involved in a criminal conspiracy to carry out terrorist activities in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir by unleashing attacks on security forces and so-called ‘outsiders’,” the National Investigation Agency (NIA) stated. Dilawar, a close associate of Chief Maulana Masood Azhar Alvi of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), was involved in inciting young people in Kashmir as part of a larger plot to carry out terrorist acts and activities in the area, which was hatched by banned terrorist organisations and their affiliates. NIA investigations have shown that Ubaid’s decision to enlist in the JeM militant ranks was inspired by Dilawar. “Militant youth would be encouraged to fight for Jihad by Dilwar by showing them radical Islamic doctrines being preached by Maulana Masood Azhar Alvi and inflammatory audio and video clips.Additionally, he would incite young people to take up guns by sending them videos of incidents that occurred in the Kashmir Valley, according to the anti-terror agency. On June 21 of last year, the NIA suo motu registered the terror conspiracy case. The case concerns the plot by terrorist organisations to use small arms, sticky bombs, and improvised explosive devices to carry out violent terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. The terror groups are supported by Pakistan and aim to commit acts of terror and violence in the region. The case deals with the radicalization of young people in the area and the mobilisation of overground members of recently established terrorist organisations, including Kashmir Tigers, PAAF, The Resistance Front (TRF), Mujahideen Gazwat-ul-Hind (MGH), Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Fighters (JKFF), and United Liberation Front Jammu and Kashmir (ULFJ&K). These groups have ties to terrorist organisations that have been outlawed, including Al-Qaeda, Laskhar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), and Al-Badr. “Investigations in the case are ongoing with NIA continuously working to expose and thwart the bigger conspiracy of the terrorist organisations to revive terrorism and disturb peace and communal harmony in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir,” stated the National Investigation Agency.
