‘Will ensure justice’: Singh meets families of 3 slain civilians in Rajouri

RAJOURI: The families of three civilians who were allegedly killed in custody just hours after being picked up by the security forces on December 22 in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district met with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday. In addition to visiting the Government Medical College (GMC) to find out the whereabouts of four other "torture" victims, he promised the surviving victim's family that justice would be served. By midday, six people—two from each of the deceased's families—had arrived in Rajouri. Singh arrived in the town in the afternoon and met the families in Dak Bungalow with the help of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Army Chief General Manoj Pande.Attending the meeting were a number of District Development Council (DDC) members, as well as former legislators and representatives of civil society. After meeting the other victims in the GMC hospital, Singh told the media, "Whatever has happened...there will be justice." On December 21, terrorists ambushed Armymen's vehicles at Dhatyar Morh, between Dhera Ki Gali and Buffliaz in Poonch, resulting in the deaths of four soldiers and the injuries of three more. Three civilians, Safeer Hussain (43), Mohd Showket (27), and Shabir Ahmad (32) were reportedly taken up by the Army for questioning after the attack; they were subsequently discovered dead on December 22. Social media users shared the allegedly captured video clips of the citizens being tortured while in custody. Mohd Zulfkar, his brother Mohd Betab, Fazal Hussain, and Mohd Farooq were among the four additional individuals who were brought to the GMC hospital on Friday. It is said that during the counterterrorism operation, the troops physically assaulted them in the Thanamandi area of Rajouri. The Thanamandi forest belt and Surankote are still the sites of ongoing terrorist searches. Former MLC Shahnaz Ganai was quoted by the news agency as saying, "The defence minister met with the families of the civilians and civil society and assured action against the guilty after an inquiry into the incident." Attending the meeting at Dak Bungalow, Ganai expressed optimism that the victim's family would receive justice following the visit of the defence minister.In addition to denouncing this incident, we honour our gallant soldiers and offer our condolences to their families. The people of Rajouri-Poonch will not permit hostile parties, either domestically or internationally, to profit from incidents of this nature, declared Ganai. DDC member from Surankote, Sohail Malik, stated that the defence minister promised to take action against everyone accountable for the incident. Confident Army Will Wipe Out Terrorism, Must Avoid ‘Mistakes’: Rajnath Singh In Jammu

JAMMU, Dec 27: On Wednesday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh urged the Indian Army not to make any such "mistakes" that could harm the nation's citizens, but he also expressed his complete confidence in the army's ability to eradicate terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir. Singh, who arrived in Jammu and Kashmir earlier in the day to assess the security situation, stated that it is the troops' duty to uphold national security while also winning over the hearts of the populace. Singh is visiting Rajouri and Jammu for the day in the wake of a terrorist attack in Poonch.The minister's remarks coincide with the fury that followed the discovery of three dead civilians in Poonch district on December 22, purportedly as a result of their being apprehended by security forces for interrogation in relation to an ambush on two army vehicles that had claimed the lives of four soldiers the day before. Soon after arriving in Jammu, the defence minister flew to the Rajouri district with Army chief General Manoj Pande and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to review the security situation, particularly in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, where terror attacks and infiltration attempts from across the Line of Control (LoC) have increased this year.Speaking to the soldiers at a Rajouri military garrison, the defence minister praised their bravery. "I have faith in your courage and perseverance. Jammu and Kashmir should be free of terrorism, and you must follow through on this promise. With General Pande and Lieutenant Governor at his sides, Singh remarked, "I have complete confidence that you will triumph."On December 21, terrorists ambushed the vehicles of four soldiers at Dhatyar Morh, between Dhera Ki Gali and Buffliaz in the Surankote area of Poonch, resulting in four deaths and three injuries. After the attack, the army allegedly picked up three civilians, ages 27 to 42, to question them. The next day, they were discovered dead. Short videos that appeared to show the detained civilians being tortured quickly gained popularity on social media. "One cannot take such ambush incidents for granted. Though I am sure you are aware of the circumstances, I believe you should be more vigilant. The government is with you, and your welfare is our first priority, I want to reassure you," Singh stated.He continued, "We will pray that such a time comes and that discussions take place here as well so that the clouds of problems hanging over us lift." "If America wishes, this war (in Gaza) will stop tomorrow but they also want Muslims to be killed," Abdullah said in reference to the Israel-Palestine conflict. He claimed that the Middle East's conflict had its roots in the days when "kings from foreign lands would come to kill Muslims." No expectations from defence minister’s J&K visit: Farooq

KULGAM: Farooq Abdullah, the president of the National Conference, stated on Wednesday that while he had no expectations for Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's visit to Jammu and Kashmir, he did hope that incidents such as the deaths of civilians in Poonch would not happen again. "I don't expect anything from his visit." Can he raise the dead again? Does he possess that ability? But in Kulgam, 80 kilometres from Srinagar, Abdullah told reporters, "He can do this much to ensure that such injustice is not repeated."The minister will "apply balm on the wounds of the affected families," according to Abdullah, who stated that Singh was visiting "because our people were killed." After being taken into custody by the Army for questioning in the wake of a terrorist attack on two Army vehicles in Poonch last Thursday that claimed the lives of four soldiers, three civilians were discovered dead. In order to assess the security situation in the wake of the terror attack on the Army vehicles, the defence minister, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Army Chief Manoj Pande travelled to Rajouri on Wednesday. The NC president stated that Rahul Gandhi "is trying to unite the country" in reference to the Congress's Bharat Nyay Yatra, which was previously announced on Wednesday. "He is attempting to eradicate the distrust and animosity among various communities." We participated in this endeavour before, and we will do so once more, he said. In response, a defiant Abdullah said, "What will happen if the two countries do not find a way for friendly relations? " in response to questions about his comments about Kashmir becoming Gaza. There is terrorism here. China is looming large over us. Where will the bombs land if this is a war? Will the bombs fall on us or explode in the air? According to Abdullah, if talks with Pakistan don't happen, "we will face the same situation as is happening with Palestinians in Gaza," he stated on Tuesday. According to the former chief minister of J&K, he has been pushing for talks between Pakistan and India to guarantee cordial ties between the two nations. I often quote Vajpayee when I say that although we can change our friends, we cannot change our neighbours. The current prime minister has added that dialogue, not violence, is the means of resolving conflicts in this day and age. Mere sloganeering will not fool people, PM Modi ensured ‘nyay’: BJP on Cong’s ‘Bharat Nyay Yatra’

NEW DELHI: On Wednesday, the BJP mocked the Congress's "Bharat Nyay Yatra," calling it "mere sloganeering," and declared that it would not "fool" people. Meenakshi Lekhi, a senior BJP leader and union minister, claimed that by ensuring that development reaches everyone, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought justice to all. She said that during the Congress' many decades in power, an unfair system was run and that people suffered from all forms of injustice, including social injustice.She stated that Modi has established the groundwork for social justice by bringing crores of people into the financial system through the opening of bank accounts, and that the banking system was a prime example of this injustice because bank loans were granted because of personal ties to those in charge of non-performing assets. Nalin Kohli, the national spokesperson for the BJP, also took aim at the Congress, stating that the opposition party is incapable of deceiving Indians with clever slogans. Rahul Gandhi, its leader, has been spotted with supporters of India's "tukde-tukde" (division). Kohli claimed that the Congress leader travels overseas in an attempt to stifle foreign influence in the nation's democracy.He stated that since 2014, Modi has been pursuing "real nyay," or making sure that development benefits everyone and every part of the nation. To support his claims, he listed initiatives like electrification of every village, free rations for the underprivileged, the construction of homes with subsidies, and the availability of Mudra loans. "All of this is a result of PM Modi's compassion for people." Sloganing alone doesn't make a difference. What has changed, he said, is your intention and dedication to putting good policies into place, which Modi is doing. The Congress said on Wednesday that it will start on January 14 and conduct a "Bharat Nyay Yatra" under Rahul Gandhi's leadership from Manipur to Mumbai, covering 14 states and 85 districts.The yatra will come to an end on March 20, which is also when the next Lok Sabha election schedule is probably going to be revealed.
