The ministry released a statement saying, "We have noted the verdict of the Court of Appeal of Qatar in the Dahra Global case, in which the sentences have been reduced." The Court of First Instance in Qatar sentenced the eight ex-Indian Navy members to death in October after they were detained in connection with a suspected espionage case.August 2022 saw the arrest of the Indian nationals, who were all workers for Dahra Global, a company based in Doha. The authorities in Qatar withheld the charges against them from the public. Last month, India filed a motion with the Court of Appeal in Qatar to overturn the death penalty. The family members were present in the Court of Appeal today, along with our ambassador to Qatar and other officials. “Option Of Filing Review Petition Being Explored”: MY Tarigami On SC Upholding Abrogation Of Article 370

JAMMU, Dec 28: MY Tarigami, the leader of the CPI(M), stated on Thursday that the Supreme Court's ruling supporting the Center's decision to revoke Article 370 is one of the options being considered. The statements were made following the unanimous December 11 unanimous ruling by the Supreme Court's five-judge Constitution bench to uphold the Union government's 2019 decision to repeal Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted Jammu and Kashmir special status, while emphasising that Article 370 is a "temporary provision."Leader of the CPI(M), MY Tarigami, stated, "As a citizen, I would say I am not happy with the verdict, in addition to being a petitioner representing my party. We are looking into other possibilities, such as asking the court to reconsider the decision and reinstate the rights of the J-K residents. MY Tarigami went on to say that the residents of Jammu and Kashmir were not consulted prior to the Centre repealing the aforementioned article. "Article 370, which was repealed without consulting the local populace, served as a link between Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of India. Before making the decision to abrogate, their opinions were not considered," he stated.In a historic decision, the supreme court upheld Jammu and Kashmir's revocation of Article 370 and gave the Centre until September of the following year to restore statehood and hold elections in the region. Reading from the ruling, CJI Chandrachud stated that every decision made by the Centre on behalf of a State under proclamation cannot be challenged in court because doing so would bring the state's administration to a complete halt. According to the Supreme Court, Article 370 of the Constitution is merely provisional. AC Amends J&K Panchayati Raj Act To Incorporate Reservation For OBCs

JAMMU, Dec 28: Under the direction of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Administrative Council (AC) approved the amendment of the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989, incorporating a definition of OBCs in order to guarantee their reservation in this grassroots democratic institution. Attending the meeting were Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, the Lieutenant Governor's principal secretary, Atal Dulloo, the chief secretary, and advisor Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar.The J&K Panchayati Raj Act (Amendment) Bill 2023 was previously submitted to the MHA and the Government of India. The MHA reviewed the draft bill and made the necessary changes, which were then included in the updated version. The amendment bill suggests adding a definition of OBCs to provide reservations for Other Backward Classes, outlining the process for being excluded from Halqa Panchayat membership, and allowing the government to suspend and remove Sarpanch, Naib-Sarpanch, and Panch. Here, it also outlines the State Election Commissioner's (SEC) terms of service and removal procedure.By guaranteeing openness in the operation of PRIs, constitutional alignment, and conformity with practices in other states where reservation has been granted to OBCs other than Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, the proposed amendments seek to improve the efficacy of the J&K Panchayati Raj Act, 1989. Modi Govt Trying To Cover Up Worst Territorial Setback In 6 Decades: Jairam

NEW DELHI, Dec 28: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh claimed on Thursday that Chinese troops have been preventing Indian patrols from accessing the vital Depsang Plains, Demchok, and other areas in eastern Ladakh since May 2020, and that the government is attempting to conceal the greatest territorial setback against the nation in sixty years. Ramesh on X referenced a post by politician Konchok Stanzin, who is based in Ladakh. According to Stanzin, the Army demolished a landmark at the location of the fabled Rezang La battle during the 1962 Sino-Indian conflict in Ladakh as part of the disengagement process with China. Stanzin is a member of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council representing Chushul.The site where a memorial had been erected at the fall of Major Singh, as disclosed by Chushu Councillor Konchok Stanzin, was demolished because it was within the buffer zone that China had negotiated in 2021. Ramesh stated on X, "This is a great insult to the memory of Major Singh and the fallen heroes of Charlie Company. One of the most famous incidents in Indian military history, according to the Congress leader, is the defence of Rezang La by C Company of 13 Kumaon, under the command of the illustrious Major Shaitan Singh."This most shameful concession provides proof, if any proof was still needed, that the buffer zones negotiated by the Modi government are in territory previously controlled by India," the speaker declared. "The Modi government has been using the DDLJ strategy—deny, distract, lie, and justify—for the past four years in an attempt to hide the largest territorial loss for India in sixty years. The party general secretary stated, "Since May 2020, Chinese troops have persisted in preventing Indian patrols from entering the vital Depsang Plains, Demchok, and other areas in eastern Ladakh.He also refuted the claimed victory of India in the Doklam conflict in 2017 and mentioned China's increasing territorial incursions into Bhutan. "China has tightened its grip on Bhutanese territory in the last six years, raising the threat to India's Siliguri Corridor, also known as Chicken's Neck," stated Ramesh, "despite baseless claims of an Indian victory in Doklam in 2017." China is aware that the Prime Minister will continue to yield to Chinese salami-slicing tactics if he is permitted to claim PR victories. The politician said, "And he will keep lying to the country, saying, 'Na koi hamari seema mein ghus aaya hai, na hi koi ghusa hua hai."Ramesh went on, "It's time to tell the Indian people the truth and to outline how and when the status quo ante will be restored in Ladakh."
