Banihal-Khari rail-line likely to open on 3 Jan after CRS inspection

RAMBAN: Following the planned Commissioner of Railways Safety (CRS) inspection on Wednesday, January 3, the Banihal-Khari segment of the USBRL project's rail link is probably going to be opened. The Northern Railway's Ferozpur Division has issued an advisory for people to avoid the Banihal-Khari track. According to a handout, Wednesday is scheduled for the second round of the mandatory inspection by CRS Dinesh Chand Deshwal for the opening of the 14.869-kilometer Banihal-Khari track. The CRS will be accompanied during the inspection by the CAO USBRL, construction officers, and other relevant officers. According to official sources, CRS will inspect the recently built railway line in the Ferozpur Division of the Northern Railway's Banihal-Khari section, which will soon be open for electric train service.They stated that the CRS will test the section at high speed using a special train on Wednesday following the tram inspection. After that, new line train construction for the USBRL project will begin between the Banihal and Khari Stations. "Crossing the track at any location and trespassing is a punishable offence and is liable for prosecution under the Railway Act," said railway officials. It will mark the beginning of a dream national project that has taken years of work between the USBRL's Udhampur-Banihal Section. The Khari Railway Station is situated on the 111 km remaining in the USBRL project, between Banihal and Katra."The Banihal-Khari Railway Station is expected to be thrown open anytime after January 3 whereas the entire Katra-Banihal stretch is scheduled to open by March 2024," said senior officials from the Northern Railway. DGP inaugurates JKP’s Grievance Redressal Portal ‘Awaam Se, Awaam Ke Liye’

JAMMU: The Jammu & Kashmir Police Grievance Redressal Portal "Awaam Se, Awaam Ke Liye" was launched on Monday by Director General of Police, J&K, RR Swain, with the goal of enhancing structured and decentralised interaction with citizens and improving the resolution of their grievances. Along with other officials, both offline and online, the launch event at Police Headquarters Jammu featured Additional Director Generals of Police (ADGPs) M K Sinha, Sunil Kumar, Anand Jain, and Nitish Kumar. The DGP Swain emphasised at the launch the importance of the portal in providing more organised resolutions to citizen and police personnel issues. According to him, commanding officers can simultaneously receive updates, check the status of their applications, and forward them to the appropriate authorities via the portal."It aims to streamline the grievance resolution process, saving time for citizens and the department," said the chief of police. Swain expressed hope that a great deal of people would gain both qualitatively and quantitatively from the smart portal. The speaker expressed his appreciation to ADGP Armed J&K for their use of the slogan "Awaam Se, Awaam Ke Liye" and recognised the efforts of DySP IT PHQ, Junaid Hakeem, and Director IT, NIC Baijul Ubbott in creating the portal. Director NIC showcased the features of the portal, while DySP IT offered insights into its operation. JAMMU: At today's 8th UT level Apex committee meeting of NCORD, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo made a strong impression on the administration to start the process of establishing NDPS courts so that convicts under this act can get a speedy trial. In addition to other concerned senior officers from civil and police administration, the meeting was attended by the following: ACS, Home; Spl DG, Crime; Principal Secretary, PWD; Principal Secretary, School Education; ADGP, Jammu; Commissioner Secretary, GAD; Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare; Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir/Jammu; IGP, Kashmir; Deputy Commissioners; and representatives from NCB, SIA, Prosecution. First, the Chief Secretary asked for the total number of UT detentions that occurred in the previous year as well as the percentage of court convictions that resulted in a successful verdict.He tasked them with improving the ability of the relevant police officers in order to prepare cases more expertly and with a higher conviction rate. Dulloo contended that since the necessary laws are in place and the police are present in sufficient numbers, it is imperative that the drug problem be addressed harshly in order to eradicate it from the UT. He emphasised the importance of making the best use of their resources in order to obtain information and turn over control of the major suppliers who are essential in assisting with this illegal trade. Additionally, he requested that additional deterrents be put in place and that those found guilty of running the drug trade in this country receive model sentences. He requested that audiovisual data from every drugstore's CCTV footage be gathered, and that it be analysed using current artificial intelligence tools to look for patterns about potential operators. Regarding the status of properties sealed under the PIT NDPS Act, he requested a report from the DCs. The Chief Secretary further instructed the health department to employ the top psychiatrists in the department to research the models used in drug addiction treatment centres throughout J&K to treat victims of this threat. Additionally, he requested that they establish a strong protocol in accordance with national standard operating procedure (SOP). In this meeting, the ACS Home's RK Goyal stated that since the concerned police officers now have more capability and have access to the facilities they need to test samples, this should inevitably lead to more convictions and quicker trials. He requested that they improve their effectiveness and aim to convert the majority of the incarcerations into legal convictions. CBI files charge-sheet against 15 accused in JE recruitment exam paper leak case

JAMMU: In a case involving irregularities in a written exam for the recruitment of junior engineers (civil) in Jammu and Kashmir's Jal Shakti Department, the CBI said on Monday that it had filed a charge sheet against 15 accused. After receiving a request from the Jammu and Kashmir government, the Central Bureau of Investigation opened the case on January 9 of last year. The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board administered the test (JKSSB). A former head constable of the CRPF, an Army sepoy, a teacher, and an assistant sub-inspector from Jammu and Kashmir are among the 15 accused against whom the charge sheet was filed, according to the CBI.It stated that the accused had conspired with a private individual during the course of the investigation. "A printing press employee allegedly stole the JE (Civil) examination question paper and gave it to the aforementioned private individual as part of the conspiracy. "To arrange/solicite candidates for the sale of leaked questions, the private individual made contact with other accused parties," the agency stated. According to the CBI, the candidates were brought to Panchkula, Haryana, where they were given hacked exam papers in return for cash. It said that the investigation, which was conducted across multiple states, included the review of over 100 witnesses as well as the analysis of massive amounts of technical data, bank accounts, and toll data. Decline in terrorism in J&K but it hasn’t been wiped out: DGP

JAMMU, Jan 1:On Monday, R R Swain, the chief of Jammu and Kashmir Police, stated that although there has been a decrease in terrorism in the region, it has not entirely disappeared. He urged his officers to strive for peace so that candidates and voters can participate in elections without fear. New Delhi, Jan 1: According to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) designated Canadian-based absconding gangster Satwinder Singh, also known as Goldy Brar, as a terrorist on Monday. The MHA cited his involvement in the smuggling of high-grade weapons, ammunition, and explosive materials from across the border through drones, which he then used to carry out killings and provide sharpshooters. Brar's name was added by the MHA as the 56th terrorist in the Fourth Schedule of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, in light of his involvement in terrorism.The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967's clause (a) of sub-section (1) of section 35 grants the MHA the authority to take this action. Brar, who was born on April 11, 1994, and has a permanent address in Adesh Nagar, Muktsar Sahib City, Punjab, is currently residing in Brampton, Canada. According to the MHA's notification, Brar is a member of the terrorist group Babbar Khalsa International. Known by another alias, Satinderjit Singh, the MHA claimed that Brar, who is supported by a cross-border agency, has a radical ideology, has been involved in several killings, and has made threats against pro-nationalist leaders. He has also been known to post claims of killings on various social media platforms and to demand ransom.According to the Ministry, Brar has also been involved in the smuggling of high-grade weapons, ammunition, and explosive materials across the border using drones. New Delhi, Jan 1: Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud stated tersely that judges decide cases "according to the Constitution and the law" and declined to add to the controversy surrounding the Supreme Court's unanimous decision upholding the repeal of Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted the former state of Jammu and Kashmir special status. In a rare interview, the Chief Justice of India also opened up about the five-judge constitution bench ruling against legalising same-sex unions, stating that a judge's decision in a case is never personal. However, the "long and hard battle" queer couples fought for the realisation of their rights was acknowledged by India's 50th Chief Justice.On October 17, a five-judge Supreme Court panel recognised queer people's equal rights and protection but declined to legalise same-sex unions. "Once a case is decided, you sort of step back from the result. As judges, we never take the results personally. I've never regretted anything. Yes, I have frequently been in the majority as well as the minority. However, a crucial aspect of a judge's life is to never align oneself with a cause. "I leave it at that, having decided a case," he uttered.In response to criticism of the Supreme Court's ruling on Article 370, he stated that judges express their opinions through their decisions, which are then public knowledge and open for debate by anyone in a free society. As far as we are concerned, we make decisions in accordance with the law and the Constitution.
