JAMMU: During the Awaam ki Awaaz programme this month, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha urged all members of the PRI, youth, women's self-help groups, entrepreneurs, voluntary organisations, and the general public to actively participate in the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra. "Every Panchayat and Urban Local Body in J&K will be included in the Government of India's largest-ever outreach initiative, the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra," he declared. It is crucial for people to participate in order for programmes to reach 100% saturation and for all intended beneficiaries to benefit from them."As the sun sets on 2023 and we reflect on the months that have gone by, we observe remarkable development, an improvement in both rural and urban areas' quality of life, and evident advancement everywhere. NEW DELHI, Dec 17: The finance ministry announced on Sunday that the number of taxpayers who filed GST returns increased by approximately 65% to 1.13 crore in the five years leading up to April 2023, as compliance increased. Additionally, there are now 1.40 crore active taxpayers registered under GST, up from 1.06 crore in April 2018. Ninety percent of eligible taxpayers file GSTR-3B returns by the end of the filing month in the current fiscal year, according to data shared by the ministry. This is an increase from sixty-eight percent in the first year of the GST rollout, 2017–18. "A higher percentage of eligible taxpayers are filing returns as a result of the GST's streamlined rules and procedures," the ministry stated in a post on X.On July 1, 2017, a national Goods and Services Tax (GST) went into effect. It included more than a dozen local taxes, including VAT, service tax, and excise. As of April 2023, there were 1.13 crore GSTR-3B filers, up from 72.49 lakh in April 2018. The monthly return form for outgoing supply details and tax payment is GSTR-3B. The ministry stated in another post on X that "the compliance level in GST return filing has improved over the years with effective policy and systemic changes in GST."The ministry further stated that an increase in return filing over time shows an improvement in the degree of compliance. In November, the monthly GST collection total was Rs 1.68 lakh crore. In the current fiscal year, gross GST collection has surpassed Rs 1.60 lakh crore for the sixth time. Since its implementation on July 1, 2017, the Goods and Services Tax collection has been increasing annually. According to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the average gross monthly mop-up for the current fiscal year is Rs 1.66 lakh crore. She made this statement earlier this month in the Lok Sabha. Srinagar, Dec 17: Authorities said on Sunday that a large fire that started in a barrack of the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) headquarters at Zewan on the outskirts of Srinagar caused significant property damage. According to fire and emergency services, a large number of tents, bulletproof jackets, helmets, and other items were severely damaged in a major fire incident that started in an ITBP barrack measuring 50 by 200. According to reports, the fire started on Saturday night, and at approximately 7:19 p.m., the fire fighters were dispatched from the neighbouring stations. The flames had to be put out for several hours before they could do significant damage to the barracks. According to the Fire and Emergency Services official, the ITBP used the items kept in the barrack during the yearly Amarnath Yatra. BHUBANESWAR: Police have detained a resident of Kashmir who was posing as a Prime Minister Office (PMO) official, an Army doctor with specialised training, and a close friend of senior NIA officials. On Saturday, officials said that it was in Odisha. They said that a Special Task Force (STF) team of J&K police in Odisha, working with local authorities, apprehended the accused conman Sayed Ishaan Bukhari, also known as Ishaan Bukhari or Dr. Ishaan Bukhari, who had ties to certain anti-national elements. Additionally, it was discovered that he communicated with some Pakistani nationals as well as dubious individuals in Kerala.Originating from the border district of Kupwara in north Kashmir, Bukhari was posing as an Army physician, a PMO officer, and a close associate of several senior officials in the National Investigation Agency (NIA). They said that after his arrest, he was found in possession of forged documents, including a medical degree certificate from Cornel University of the USA, the Canadian Health Services Institute, and Christian Medical College Vellore. Furthermore, they claimed that phoney identification cards, visiting cards, ATM cards, blank checks, and Aadhar cards were also taken from him. It was discovered that the accused con artist had wed at least six women nationwide.Gujarati national Kiran Patel was apprehended by the police in March of this year after pretending to be a high-ranking PMO bureaucrat during his third visit to Kashmir. He was taken into custody from a five-star Srinagar hotel. Similar to Bukhari, Patel asserted that he was extremely intelligent, holding degrees in computer science (M-Tech), computer engineering (BE), and PhD from Commonwealth University in Virginia, as well as an MBA from IIM Trichy.
