Centre Hands Over 324 Cases To NIA In Last Five Years: MHA To Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, Dec 20: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that the Central government has sent 324 cases to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) over the previous five years. In response to a member's inquiry, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanad Rai provided the details in writing. According to the Minister, the NIA received these 324 cases between December 1, 2018, and November 30, 2023. After weighing the seriousness of the cases, the MHA turned the cases over to the NIA, which specialises in looking into terror-related incidents nationwide as well as other matters under its purview.In response to a question concerning the number of cases in which verdicts have been rendered by courts over the past five years and the number of cases in which the accused has been found guilty, the Ministry of State provided data that, between December 1, 2018, and November 30, 2023, showed 84 cases in which judgements were rendered and 81 cases in which the accused were found guilty. The data shows that as of November 30 of this year, there were a total of 15 cases in which a judgement was rendered. These cases were followed by 31 in 2022, 15 in 2021, 9 in 2020, and 14 in 2019. Chilla-i-Kalan: Kashmir valley braces for harshest winter period

SRINAGAR: As the valley prepares for "Chilla-i-Kalan," the 40-day harshest winter period, the minimum temperature in Kashmir remained several degrees below the freezing point, officials said on Wednesday. According to officials, the previous night's low of minus 3.7 degrees Celsius was surpassed by a low of minus 4.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday night in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. According to reports, Pahalgam, one of the base camps for the yearly Amarnath Yatra in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 6.3 degrees Celsius.According to officials, a low of minus 4.4 degrees Celsius was recorded at the well-known ski resort of Gulmarg in the Baramulla district. The minimum temperature in Qazigund was recorded at minus 4 degrees Celsius, while in Kokernag town it was recorded at minus 3.3 degrees Celsius and in Kupwara at minus 3.5 degrees Celsius. The weather bureau has predicted mostly dry conditions in Kashmir for the upcoming few days due to a predicted further drop in the minimum temperature. A lot of the slower moving water bodies have frozen as a result of the temperature drop. In certain places, it has also caused the water supply pipes to freeze. People in many parts of Kashmir have turned to using "kangri," an earthen firepot, as a means of heating up during the unpredictable winter months.Children and the elderly are experiencing more respiratory issues as a result of the temperature drop. The 40-day period known as 'Chilla-i-Kalan' is the most severe winter period. During this time, a cold wave sweeps the area, causing a significant drop in temperature that causes water bodies, including the well-known Dal Lake here, as well as the water supply lines in several valley areas, to freeze. During this time, there is a greater likelihood of snowfall than at any other time of year, and most places—especially those in the upper reaches—experience heavy snowfall. The duration of 'Chillai-Kalan' is from December 21 to January 31. Even after that, Kashmir experiences a 20-day "Chillai-Khurd" (small cold) and a 10-day "Chillai-Bachha" (baby cold) cold wave. J&K Police Raids 5 Locations In Srinagar In Multi-Crore Investment Fraud

SRINAGAR, Dec 20: As part of an investigation into an alleged multi-crore investment scam, the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted raids at five different locations in Srinagar, officials announced on Wednesday. The cyber wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police said that during their raids on Saturday night, they found documents and electronic devices. The fraudsters established a company called "Curative Survey" in the Karan Nagar area, allegedly taking inspiration from the Hindi film "Phir Hera Pheri." They conned a number of people out of at least Rs 59 crore by claiming to be able to double their investment in two weeks. On Tuesday, 141 Members of Parliament—a record—were suspended from their positions.However, the officials stated that since the investigation is ongoing, the sum may go up. At first, the company followed through on its promise, which attracted additional investors. At least two local YouTubers also promoted the plan, which increased its popularity. The company's owners vanished shortly after, according to officials, who also mentioned that they discovered the Karan Nagar office was locked. Idris Mir, one of the YouTubers, claimed he could not be held accountable for the scam because he had paid to promote the company on his channel."I didn't do it by myself. And there are still others. We have conducted independent investigations to confirm the company's legal status. Only then do we advertise the business. This company had branches in Jammu, Srinagar, Patton, and Sangrama and had been in business for almost a year. "What was going on all this time?" he inquired. INDIA bloc MPs stage protest in front of Gandhi statue against bulk suspension

NEW DELHI: On Wednesday morning, members of the Indian Parliament from bloc parties, including those who have been suspended, are protesting in front of the Gandhi statue on the Parliament grounds regarding the suspension of 141 opposition MPs and the'security breach' incident. The opposition MPs seem unflinching in their pursuit of a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah inside the House following the December 13 security breach incident. The protest was spearheaded by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress Parliamentary Leader Sonia Gandhi, with participation from other opposition MPs, including those on suspension.Karti Chidambaram, a Congress MP, stated, "This will be the norm. My way or the highway, that is. We have the majority, so we'll kick you out if you don't follow our lead. We are in charge of both Houses. The Parliament is to be transformed into a stamping house by them." Congressman Shashi Tharoor declared, "This is a stain on our democracy and a questionable record in parliamentary history." Rather than upholding democracy, they have acted. Accountability to Parliament is the paramount duty of ministers. This government doesn't want a conversation about the security breach in the house, but the home minister ought to have visited the house and addressed the issue. Their only goal is to make it "my way or the highway."
