ACB arrests assistant engineer in Budgam for accepting bribe

BUDGAM: Tanveer Ahmad, an Assistant Engineer at the BDO office in Surasyar Chadoora, Budgam district, was captured by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) after he was found to have accepted a bribe. After receiving a complaint, the engineer was taken into custody and had a sizable quantity of cash taken from him. An investigation is still underway after a formal complaint was filed in accordance with Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The ACB team's successful trap operation resulted in the accused's red-handed capture, and additional investigations are being carried out at a nearby police station. This brings the total number of lower House members against whom such action has been taken to one hundred. Pralhad Joshi, the minister of Parliamentary Affairs, proposed to suspend D K Suresh, Deepak Baij, and Nakul Nath. Parliament Passes Bill On Appointment Of CEC, Election Commissioners

New Delhi, Dec 21: The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and election commissioners' terms of office are to be regulated by a bill that Parliament passed on Thursday. Arjun Meghwal, the Minister of Law, stated that the legislation was brought about in response to a Supreme Court ruling. Following a brief debate, the Lok Sabha passed the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Bill, 2023. The Rajya Sabha approved it last week. 97 members of major opposition political parties were suspended for the remainder of the winter session due to "misconduct," but they nevertheless participated in the bill debate.The Chief Election Commissioner and other election commissioners' pension, leave, resignation, and terms of office are all covered by the bill, along with their qualifications, search and selection committees, pensions, and terms of office. Meghwal stated that there are no provisions pertaining to the qualifications, search committee for assembling a group of candidates for consideration, and recommendation by the Selection Committee for appointment as CEC and election commissioners in the Election Commission (Conditions of Service of Election Commissioners and Transaction of Business) Act, 1991.In a writ petition, the Supreme Court ruled that the President would appoint CECs and ECs based on recommendations from a committee that included the Chief Justice of India, the Prime Minister, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and the leader of the largest opposition party in the House. Meghwal stated that the ruling had stated that the Supreme Court's standard would remain applicable until the Parliament passes a new law. He declared, "We are bringing the law for this purpose."He said that the search committee will now be led by the Law Minister rather than the Cabinet Secretary as a result of a bill amendment. According to the bill, the President will appoint CECs and ECs based on the Selection Committee's recommendation. The Prime Minister, a Union Cabinet Minister, and the Leader of the Opposition, or the head of the biggest opposition party in the Lok Sabha, will make up the Selection Committee. The Election Commission (Conditions of Service of Election Commissioners and Transaction of Business) Act, 1991 will be superseded by the Bill.The provisions of the bill have previously drawn the serious concern of opposition members, who have called it "one of the biggest blows to democracy" by the Modi government in the last nine years. New Delhi, Dec 21: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju criticised leaders of the Congress and the DMK, India's two main block partners, on Thursday for their "disparaging" comments regarding the recent historic Supreme Court decision that upheld the region's division into two distinct Union Territories (UTs)—Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh—and upheld the revocation of special constitutional privileges under Article 370 from the former state of Jammu and Kashmir. "This is not only pejorative remarks on the Supreme Court but the motive behind is very dangerous for our country's unity," Rijiju wrote from his official X handle, sharing a video clip of the Lok Sabha's proceedings during the current Winter Session of Parliament.The Rajya Sabha floor saw a heated exchange between DMK MP Mohamad Abdulla and Congress member Venugopal, who were heard criticising the apex court's ruling on the abrogation of Article 370. Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar reprimanded the members, telling them that "they can't ridicule the judgement of the highest court of law." The video clip was shared by the Union Minister. CISF To Be Deployed For ‘Comprehensive’ Security Of Parliament

New Delhi, Dec 21: Days after a significant security breach in Parliament, the central government is in negotiations with relevant parties to assign the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) "comprehensive" security of the building. According to government sources, representatives from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Delhi Police, the CISF, and other relevant divisions discussed the issue at a recent meeting.Sources claim that a second round of meetings next week will decide the issue in the end. But according to those with knowledge of the development, the meeting focused mostly on two issues: one proposed giving the CISF complete security of the Parliament because of its experience, and the other was keeping some Delhi Police security personnel on duty. In order to obtain feedback prior to the deployment of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), which presently protects numerous central government ministry buildings in Delhi in addition to installations in the nuclear and aerospace sectors, civil airports and the Delhi Metro, an order has also been issued for a survey of the Parliament building complex. The meeting to alter the Parliament's security setup takes place a few days after the Lok Sabha Secretariat suspended eight security personnel for failing to provide adequate security during the December 13 security breach incident, in which two intruders, Manoranjan D and Sagar Sharma, leaped into the building from the visitors' gallery and unlocked smoke canisters. The Delhi Police then took them into custody. Neelam Azad and Amol Shinde, two additional individuals, were also detained outside Parliament and used comparable smoke canisters. Under the anti-terror Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), all four of these individuals have been charged. Following the breach of Parliament's security, the Secretary General of the Lok Sabha wrote to the MHA regarding a security review. The MHA ordered an investigation into the Parliament security breach incident on December 13 in response to a request from the Lok Sabha Secretariat. Director General Anish Dayal Singh of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) chaired the inquiry committee, which also included experts and members from other security agencies. According to MHA, the inquiry committee will look into what caused the security breach in Parliament, pinpoint any shortcomings, and suggest additional measures. Dec -21 : Around 11 am. on Thursday, the microblogging platform X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a technical issue. Instead of the standard tweets on the feed, "Welcome to your timeline" was displayed on the website and in the mobile application. It appears that users were unable to access the platform due to a significant outage. Over seventy thousand people have reported being unable to use the platform, according to Downdetector. Furthermore, the cause of this problem is unknown at this time. Many users flocked to Facebook to voice their concerns after the outage. A user named Samuel Oseremen Imoisili wrote, "Please, who uses X/twitter, seems the app is not working or someone should help me confirm.""Myself and other Twitter users are holding onto (going back to) Facebook. Tony Thee Goon, a different Facebook user who also shared a meme, wrote, "Since our app is down." The outage that X is experiencing is not new. There were outages on the Elon Musk-owned platform in March and July of this year. According to a July report from Downdetector, X experienced over 13,000 outages in both the US and the UK. People reported seeing the message "We apologise, but your rate is limited." Kindly wait a short while before attempting again." In a similar vein, the platform experienced a brief outage on March 6. Many users expressed dissatisfaction over their inability to use it normally or their difficulties accessing links, photos, and videos. This outage impacted thousands of people, and many users in certain areas reported that the website was operating slower than usual. Arvind Kejriwal replies to ED, says summons politically motivated, illegal

NEW DELHI: According to AAP sources on Thursday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal responded to the ED summons, describing them as unlawful and politically motivated. Kejriwal was called in by the Enforcement Directorate on Thursday to be questioned about the money laundering case related to the excise policy. But on Wednesday, he departed for an undisclosed location to attend a 10-day Vipassana meditation course. "Kejriwal referred to the recent summons as unlawful and politically motivated. He responded by saying that he has lived an honest and transparent life and that he has nothing to conceal.
