NEW DELHI, Sept 17: In an effort to promote organisational discipline and togetherness, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday urged party officials to put the party's success ahead of personal issues and combat opponents with all their might in the upcoming state and Lok Sabha elections. On the second day of discussions, Kharge addressed the extended CWC meeting and stated that the party's objective must be to defeat the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and earnestly work to build a rival administration in the nation. Kharge launched a harsh attack on the Modi administration, accusing it of engaging in political games and bringing up new crises to draw attention away from more pressing ones. "Recently, the Modi government established a committee on "One Nation, One Election" during the INDIA alliance meeting in Mumbai. Anantnag operation enters 5th day

SRINAGAR:According to officials, the operation to find terrorists hiding in the Gadole forest region of Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district started its fifth day on Sunday as security forces expanded their operational area to include nearby villages and fired a number of mortar shells at the forest. Two wounded terrorists had altered their course, the ambush party later realised. Around 9.15 am, the ambush party engaged in a second gunfight with them, which lasted for around 30 minutes and led to the neutralisation of the second terrorist, he claimed. The third wounded terrorist, according to Brigadier Dhillon, "exfiltrated" with the aid of gunfire from a neighbouring Pakistani station. ‘Hardcore’ criminal, associate arrested in Jammu

JAMMU: A top police officer announced on Saturday that a suspected hardcore criminal who had been included in more than a dozen FIRs during the previous three years had been detained. The officer claimed that his close friend was also detained. Both Bishnah residents Yakoob Ali alias Lambu and Sharief Ali were detained in Phallain Mandal. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (Jammu) Chandan Kohli, two sharp weapons were taken from them. He claimed that as the two perpetrators were driving in a car, the police set up special checkpoints at several sites and apprehended them. The cops subdued the couple despite being attacked with sharp weapons when they attempted to run after witnessing the checkpoints, the officer claimed.Kohli called Lambu's arrest a "major success" and said that he is a well-known drug dealer and criminal. Between 2020 and 2023, 13 cases involving attempted murder, rioting, criminal intimidation, rape, kidnapping, criminal assault of government employees and police officers, firearms possession, and drug trafficking were filed against Lambu, his brother, and another associate at various police stations. Srinagar, Sep 16: The Jammu and Kashmir branch of the Congress on Saturday said that militancy was on the rise in the valley and urged that the government formulate a comprehensive strategy to stop it. Vikar Rasool Wani, head of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), denounced the Wednesday shooting deaths of three members of the security forces in the Kokernag district.
