BSF lodges protests with Pak Rangers over unprovoked cross-border firing along IB in Jammu

JAMMU: Two BSF troops were hurt in unprovoked cross-border firing at a forward station along the Indo-Pak border here, and as a result, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Pakistan Rangers have submitted a protest, according to officials on Friday. At a commandant-level flag meeting on Thursday night at a border outpost (BoP) along the International Border (IB) in the R S Pura sector, the BSF and Pakistan Rangers discussed the matter, according to a statement. 3 dead as car falls into gorge in Kishtwar

KISHTWAR : In the Kishtwar district on Friday, a car carrying three people went off the road and into a gorge, killing the occupants. Three people lost their lives in an accident with the Alto automobile (Jk06B-I909) this afternoon close to Kandni Kishtwar. They are Dhyan Singh of Gandho, Madan Lal of Sarror, and Rakesh Kumar of Badano Thatri. A police official confirmed it, stating that an investigation has been launched and a case has been filed. PM Flags Off First Train Of Delhi-Meerut RRTS Service, Takes Ride In ‘Namo Bharat’ Train

SAHIBABAD Oct 20: On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi rode aboard a "Namo Bharat" train that was operating on the 17-kilometer priority segment of the nation's first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) track. To commemorate the opening of the RRTS in India, Modi waved the green flag to the train that ran between the Sahibabad and Duhai Depot stations. Trains operating in this corridor have a 180 kmph top speed. At the RRTS station at Sahibabad, the prime minister unveiled a plaque to officially launch the priority section.According to a top National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) official, he also became the first individual to purchase a smart card utilising the UPI payment method in order to enter the concourse. An exhibition was also shown to Prime Minister Modi at the station. Following the flag-off of the first "Namo Bharat" train, Modi got on a train in Sahibabad and proceeded to travel by corridor. He had conversations with the train's crew and a few students while travelling. The NCRTC official stated, "During the flag off, many students from various Ghaziabad schools were present on the platform, and some other school students were present in the train which the prime minister boarded."There are five stations in the priority section between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot: Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Sahibabad, and Duhai Depot. The section of the main corridor that leads from Duhai to Duhai Depot is called a spur. According to the official, Prime Minister Modi rode the priority section from Sahibabad to Guldhar and then returned to Sahibabad station, where he got off. When the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is finished, the distance between Delhi and Meerut will be somewhat less than one hour.At the opening ceremony of the Sahibabad station were Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Governor Anandiben Patel of Uttar Pradesh. October 21 will see the opening of India's first semi-high-speed regional rail service. The trains will include numerous passenger amenities and high-tech features. According to earlier statements from NCRTC officials, the services will start at 6 a.m. and last until 11 p.m.Constructed for the NCRTC's semi-high-speed regional rail service, the RRTS corridor is a collaborative effort between the Central government and the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. The first RRTS in India will be built between Delhi and Meerut, and its development will be managed by the NCRTC. By June 2025, the full 82.15 km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS is expected to be operational. Prime Minister Modi lay the foundation stone for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor on March 8, 2019.The RRTS project is being built in accordance with his goal to improve regional connections in the nation through the creation of new, world-class transport infrastructure, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) had stated in a statement on Wednesday. With a 180 kmph design speed, the RRTS is a brand-new, high-frequency, semi-high-speed rail-based commuter transport system. The PMO had stated that the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, which is being created at a cost of more than Rs 30,000 crore, will connect Delhi to Meerut in less than an hour by passing via the urban hubs of Ghaziabad, Muradnagar, and Modinagar.On the eve of the RRTS's opening, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri declared that the trains will be dubbed "Namo Bharat." SC dismisses PIL challenging restoration of Rahul LS membership

New Delhi: On Friday, the Supreme Court denied a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that contested Congressleader Rahul Gandhi's reinstatement in the Lok Sabha and assessed the petitioner a fee of Rs 1 100,000.A court led by Justice BR Gavai declared that the petition constituted an abuse of the legal system because the petitioner's fundamental rights had not been infringed. Ashok Pandey, an advocate, filed a suit with the top court contesting Gandhi's reinstatement as a member. Gandhi's membership was reinstated by the Lok Sabha Secretariat following the Supreme Court's August 4 stay of his conviction in connection with a comment he made regarding the surname "Modi." The Congress leader was re-instated as Wayanad MP after being disqualified from the lower house in March 2023. Interest Rate To Remain High For Now : RBI Governor

New Delhi, Oct 20: The governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Shaktikanta Das, stated on Friday that interest rates will likely stay high for some time to come. Major global central banks have increased their key policy rates in response to the ongoing geopolitical crises in an effort to combat excessive inflation. Since May 2022, the Reserve Bank has also increased the short-term benchmark lending rate (repo) by a total of 250 basis points. But in February of this year, it stopped raising interest rates, keeping the repo rate at 6.5%. In response to a question at the Kautilya Economic Conclave 2023, the governor stated, "Interest rates will remain high at the moment, (for) how long, only time will tell." During his speech at the Conclave, Das stated that in order to guarantee a gradual descent of domestic inflation from its peak of 7.44 percent in July, the monetary policy should continue to be actively disinflationary. He stressed that there is never a tolerance for complacency when it comes to monetary policy. Samba police arrests four hard core criminals

SAMBA: Four virulent attackers who killed a woman and police under the jurisdiction of Police Station (PS) Bari Brahmana and Police Station, Vijaypur, respectively, have been apprehended by police under the general supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police, Samba, Benam Tosh. The Rakh Barotian Vijaypur residents Mohammad Ashraf, alias Ashu, son of Roshan Din, Liaqat Ali, alias Laaki, son of Babur, and Mam Hussain, son of Babu, have all been recognised as the apprehended culprits. One other criminal has also been identified.Four hardened criminals have been apprehended: three were involved in an attack on police in case FIR No.132/2023 U/Ss 307, 382, 332, 353, 148, 149, 34 IPC of Police Station Vijaypur; during their patrol duty, the heroin smugglers and their supporters attacked them near Rakh Barotian last month. Another criminal was apprehended in case FIR No.247/2023 U/Ss 307, 452, 323, 147, 506 IPC of Police Station, Bari Brahmana, where a woman was attacked with a sharp object, leaving her critically injured and requiring hospitalisation.The police team led by SHO Vijaypur, Sandeep Charak, and SHO Bari Brahmana, Sumit Sharma, with the oversight of SDPO Vijaypur, Rohit Kumar, SDPO Bari Brahmana, Rahul Nagar, and Additional SP Samba, Surinder Choudhary, has apprehended the hardened offenders. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Benam Tosh, Samba police have apprehended 142 hardened offenders in the last nine months, and the district's miscreants, criminals, and Gunda members are all facing severe legal consequences. 4 dead after truck falls off bridge in Jammu

JAMMU:According to accounts, a truck went off a bridge in Jammu on Friday, killing four people. The tragedy happened on the Jhajjarkotli NH44, according to an official. A truck with the registration number RJ13GB/5654 lost control, struck the bridge divider, and then fell from a height of around 80 feet. The truck's conductor and driver were both pronounced dead at the spot, according to the official. Two more bodies that had been found and removed were found when the police squad arrived. A representative affirmed that a case has been filed and that more inquiries are presently being conducted. The victims' names are still unknown as of as moment. Terror suspect held in Kathua

JAMMU: A terror suspect was apprehended by police last night from the Hiranagar tehsil of the Kathua district, close to the International Border. It was discovered that the suspect was using a mobile phone to transmit information to Pakistan. Rukamdin, age 35, has been identified as him. The police made an arrest after they received specific information that certain calls had been placed from outside the country.
