PM lauds Shah as outstanding administrator on his birthday

NEW DELHI: On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Home Minister Amit Shah a happy 59th birthday and praised his services to the government and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. "He (Shah) is passionate about India's progress and ensuring a better quality of life for the poor," Modi wrote in a post on X. He has established himself as an exceptional administrator, significantly strengthening India's security structure and advancing the cooperative sector." He praised Shah's contribution to fortifying the BJP and expressed his desire for "a long life and wonderful health." He received birthday wishes from other prominent BJP figures as well, such as Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari.J P Nadda, the president of the BJP, lauded Shah's extraordinary commitment to the country, his genuineness, and his organisational prowess, calling it an inspiration for party members. Shah, the minister of cooperation and a close friend of the prime minister, has been instrumental in the BJP's ascent under Modi's direction. After being appointed as the BJP's national president in 2014, he oversaw the party's expansion on a national level and helped it gain significant electoral traction in a number of states, which helped it win a larger majority when it returned to power at the centre in 2019. As a Cabinet minister in the second Modi government, Shah played a key role in the ruling party delivering on its core promise to repeal Article 370, which granted Jammu and Kashmir unique powers. The party's political and electoral strategy still heavily relies on the home minister. Indian Army pays tribute to Agniveer Gawate Akshay Laxman

NEW DELHI: On Sunday, the Indian Army honoured Agniveer Gawate Akshay Laxman, an operator who died while performing his duties in the dangerous Siachen glacier area. The grieving family received the sincere sympathies of the Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army. "They will march again when the bugle calls, having gone silent while camped in the snow." "Fire and Fury Corps extends its deepest condolences to the family and salutes the supreme sacrifice made by Agniveer (Operator) Gawate Akshay Laxman in the line of duty in the unforgiving heights of Siachen," the group wrote on X.In a social media message, the Indian Army stated that it is standing by the grieving family during this difficult time. Anshuman Singh, the Regiment Medical Officer, passed away due to severe burn injuries sustained during the tragic event. According to the officials, three additional staff members inhaled smoke and sustained second-degree burns. Siachen Glacier, which is located close to the Indo-Pak Line of Control, is renowned for being the world's highest war site. It is the second-biggest glacier in the world and the largest in India. India sends humanitarian aid to people of Palestine

NEW DELHI: On Sunday, India dispatched 32 tonnes of disaster relief supplies and over 6.5 tonnes of medical help to the Palestinian people. The cargo was transported by an Indian Air Force C-17 transport plane. The aircraft is flying the relief to Egypt's El-Arish airport. India provides humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people. "A spokesperson for the External Affairs Ministry, Arindam Bagchi, announced on "X" that an IAF C-17 aircraft carrying around 6.5 tonnes of medical aid and 32 tonnes of disaster relief supplies for the people of Palestine is leaving for El-Arish airport in Egypt."Among other necessary items, the material includes essential life-saving medications, surgical supplies, tents, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, sanitary utilities, and water purification tablets," he stated. Three days prior, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed condolences to President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority on the deaths of civilians in a Gaza hospital and reaffirmed India's long-standing "principled position" on the Israel-Palestine conflict. Following this, India provided the supplies. During a phone call on Thursday, the prime minister informed the president of the Palestine Authority that New Delhi will keep sending aid to the Palestinian people. India has contributed to the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in order to support Palestine and Palestinian refugees. Snowfall, Light Rain Likely Over Scattered Places Over J&K: MeT

SRINAGAR, Oct 22: Over the following 24 hours, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar forecasted that there would likely be light rain or snowfall in a few locations over the higher regions of Jammu and Kashmir. Most areas of the state are gloomy, while scattered areas of Jammu and Kashmir are expected to have light rain or snow today on the higher peaks, according to the forecast. According to the MeT office, Monday's weather will be partially to generally cloudy, and from October 24 to 27, it will be fair to partly cloudy with poor visibility in the morning.It stated that while there is no heavy rain or snowfall predicted for Jammu and Kashmir or Ladakh till October 27, there is a chance of light rain in a few locations around the state on October 28 and 29. Additionally, a weather advisory was issued by the MeT office for today, advising against harvesting and other outdoor activities. The MeT office reported that the minimum temperature recorded at Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, was 6.6 degrees Celsius, while Qazigund recorded 5.4 degrees, Pahalgam 1.8 degrees, Kokernag 6.0 degrees, and Gulmarg 3.2 degrees. Defence PSU making headway in developing indigenous top-end military gear

GUWAHATI: While several of its goods are in the field trial stage, Troop Comforts Ltd. (TCL), a defence PSU, has received a request for proposal (RFP) for a number of its domestically made military gear. In addition to apparel, the company is developing sleeping bags, multipurpose bags, ice pitons, hammer pitons, boots, and crampons. The Indian Army's Eastern Command is in charge of field trials, but its Northern Command has received the RFPs, according to military authorities. After being split off from the former Ordnance Factory Board, TCL started operating in its current configuration in October 2021.Junior Works Manager Ranveer Singh stated, "We are working on indigenously developing specialised gear needed for our personnel posted in difficult terrain, from mountainous regions to extremely cold conditions." 111 fresh dengue cases reported in Jammu

JAMMU: On Saturday, a total of 11 new dengue cases were recorded from different regions of Jammu and Kashmir, bringing the overall number of cases this year to 4170. According to a health official, 73 instances from Jammu district alone were recorded today. Udhampur and Kathua districts reported 8 cases apiece, Samba reported 7, Doda reported 6, Rajouri and Kishtwar reported 3, Reasi reported 2, and J&K reported 2. He said that 98 adults and 13 children are among the positive patients. According to him, the Jammu district has recorded the most cases—2765—followed by Udhampur district (513 cases), Kathua (331 cases), and Samba (271 cases)."There were 77 cases in Rajouri, 45 in Ramban, 42 in Reasi, 36 in Doda, 25 in Poonch, 7 in Kishtwar, 22 in Kashmir and 32 from other parts of the country," added the official. The official added that although dengue has already claimed four lives this season, a total of 1334 people have been hospitalised to hospitals; of these, 1206 have been discharged and 92 are currently receiving treatment. The official declared, "There are more and more instances of dengue every day. Citizens should make sure there is no standing water inside or outside their homes, as this is where the insects that cause dengue thrive. At a celebration held by the Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust at Amar Mahal to mark the occasion, Dr. Karan Singh emphasised the importance of reexamining the life and accomplishments of Maharaja Gulab Singh. No traffic movement on Jmu-Sri hghwy for repairs on Sunday

JAMMU: Travellers complained of delays on various sections of the Jammu-Srinagar highway, including those damaged by recent rains. Officials said that traffic flow on the route will remain delayed on Sunday for repairs in the Ramban district. No vehicle will be permitted to proceed on the vital route between the Nashri and Banihal tunnels after 6 p.m. on Saturday, according to a traffic police alert. It stated that the restriction would last until Sunday at midnight and that it was necessary to halt traffic in order to perform maintenance and restoration work at Dalwas, where landslides caused by intense rains on October 16 had left the road section reduced to a single lane."In view of poor surface condition and sinking of road, the NHAI has been directed by the government to undertake repair and restoration work, which will be carried out on Sunday," a spokesperson stated.
