NEW DELHI : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Saturday that it is time to return to an era of people-centered governance in India, claiming that the BRS government is "incapable" of meeting the needs of the people of Telangana. Gandhi also posted a video on his YouTube channel from a recent visit to the home of the family of a farmer who committed suicide in Telangana in 2020. The former Congress chief emphasised the party's guarantees in Telangana in his post, saying they are intended to provide a minimum floor to the people of the state. "As Mahatma Gandhi once said, the most important voice is the last one in queue." Kummari Chandrayya's voice was one such example.And the 'Dorala' BRS government let him down. He was a Telangana small farmer struggling to make ends meet and burdened by debt. "He died by suicide, leaving behind his loving family," Gandhi said, sharing a video of his visit to the farmer's family. Iceland's authorities warned in an official statement that the seismic activity could lead to volcanic eruptions in the country. According to Iceland's Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management, "the National police chief... declares a state of emergency for civil defence due to the intense earthquake (activity) at Sundhnjukagigar, north of Grindavik." SC Refuses To Entertain Plea To Frame Guidelines For Regulation Of Trading Of Cryptocurrencies

NEW DELHI, Nov 11: The Supreme Court has refused to hear a petition asking the Centre and others to develop guidelines for regulating cryptocurrency trading and mining. Cryptocurrencies are digital or virtual currencies based on blockchain technology that operate independently of a central bank. The main reliefs sought in the petition, according to a bench led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, were more in the nature of a legislative direction. The bench, which also included Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, noted that while the petition was filed under Article 32 of the Constitution, it was clear that the "real purpose is to seek bail in proceedings which are pending against the petitioner.""We cannot agree with this course of action." The petitioner would be free to petition the appropriate court for regular bail. "In terms of the main reliefs, they are more in the nature of a legislative direction, which the court cannot issue under Article 32 of the Constitution," the bench said in its Friday order. Article 32 addresses the right to constitutional remedies, and 32 (1) grants citizens the right to petition the Supreme Court for the enforcement of their rights. The bench noted that among the reliefs sought in the plea filed by the man from Uttar Pradesh was a direction to prosecute cases involving digital assets/cryptocurrencies."We accordingly dispose of the petition granting liberty to the petitioner to pursue his remedies in accordance with law," according to the statement. Bovine Smuggler Arrested Under PSA In Reasi

JAMMU, Nov 11: An alleged bovine smuggler was arrested on Saturday under the Public Safety Act in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district, according to police. According to a police spokesman, Mohd Azam, a resident of Kothian village in Pouni tehsil, is a notorious bovine smuggler. He was arrested and taken to Kot Bhalwal jail, he said. According to the source, Azam's dossier was prepared on the orders of Reasi Senior Superintendent of Police Amit Gupta and submitted to the district magistrate, who formally ordered his detention under the strict PSA.Azam was named in five FIRs filed in Rajouri, Reasi, and Jammu over the last three years under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, according to the spokesman. Sisodia reaches home from Tihar Jail to meet ailing wife

NEW DELHI: After obtaining permission from a city court, former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia arrived at his residence here on Saturday from Tihar Jail to see his ailing wife. Sisodia, who is being held in connection with the alleged liquor scam, was granted six hours in jail between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sisodia, accompanied by police officers, arrived at his home on Mathura Road around 10 a.m. in a prison van. The Delhi High Court also granted him permission to meet with his wife Seema, who has multiple sclerosis.He was unable to meet her because she was hospitalised due to a sudden deterioration in her condition. While allowing Sisodia to meet his wife, the court ordered him not to speak to the media or engage in any political activity. Before his arrest by the CBI in February, Sisodia was a senior AAP leader who served as deputy chief minister as well as holding various portfolios, including the Excise Department, in the Arvind Kejriwal government. After being arrested, he resigned as deputy CM and minister of various departments, but his family continued to live at his then-official residence on Mathura Road, which he shared with Education Minister Atishi. Many houseboats gutted in fire in Srinagar’s Dal Lake

SRINAGAR: According to officials, several houseboats were destroyed after a massive fire broke out on a houseboat in Dal Lake on the outskirts of Srinagar district in Jammu and Kashmir. The fire started in one of the houseboats late Friday night and quickly spread to several others. The officials also stated that there were no immediate reports of injuries or deaths as a result of the fire. "A massive fire on Dal Lake gutted several houseboats." In a joint statement issued at the conclusion of the '2+2' foreign and defence ministerial dialogue, New Delhi and Washington condemned terrorism and violent extremism, as well as the use of terrorist proxies and logistical, financial, and military support to terror groups. The American delegation was led by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin, while the Indian delegation was led by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The two sides also discussed the situation in Afghanistan and urged the Taliban to keep their promise to prevent any group or individual from using Afghan territory to threaten the security of any country. India and the United States also urged the Taliban to respect all Afghans' human rights, including women, children, and members of minority groups, and to maintain freedom of movement. "India and the US reiterated their condemnation of the 26/11 Mumbai attack and the Pathankot attack and called for bringing the perpetrators of these attacks to justice," the statement went on to say."The ministers also called for concerted action against all terrorists, including through designations of individuals affiliated with groups that are listed by the UN Security Council 1267 Sanctions Committee, such as Al-Qa'ida, ISIS/Daesh, Lashkar-e-Tayyiba, and Jaish-e-Mohammed," according to the statement. Terrorist groups based in Pakistan were responsible for the 26/11 and Pathankot attacks in 2016. The ministers emphasised the importance of adhering to international anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing standards, as recommended by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to cooperating in FATF and other multilateral forums."They expressed determination to counter new and emerging forms of terrorism and violent extremism and the use of emerging and evolving technologies such as unmanned aerial systems and the internet for terrorist purposes," the statement went on to say. The ministers agreed to hold the 20th meeting of the India-US joint working group on counter-terrorism and the fifth designations dialogue early next year at a mutually convenient time. "Both parties are looking forward to the 2024 edition of the Homeland Security Dialogue, where leaders will advance security cooperation through capacity building and other activities."The two sides also agreed on the importance of strengthening the security of critical networks and information infrastructure." The ministers also discussed Afghanistan's situation. "The ministers urged the Taliban to keep their promise to prevent any group or individual from using Afghan territory to threaten the security of any country, citing UN Security Council Resolution 2593 (2021), which states that "Afghan territory must not be used to threaten or attack any country, or to shelter or train terrorists, or to plan or finance terrorist attacks." "They also emphasised unhindered access to deliver humanitarian assistance and recommitted to having consultations on Afghanistan to help facilitate an inclusive and peaceful future for all Afghans," the statement said. JAMMU: J&K LG Sinha stated on Friday that the region's diverse fauna has the potential to make it a leader in Ayurveda. Sinha made the remark while leading a consecration ceremony at the Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital on Jammu's outskirts. During the ceremony, an idol of Bhagwan Dhanvantari was installed in the college. During the Akhnoor event, Sinha stated, "Jammu Kashmir has the potential to lead the country as a wellness and Ayurveda hub." Efforts towards this goal can be greatly aided by startups led by young entrepreneurs and Ayurveda graduates." He claims that J&K is endowed with a diverse range of medicinal and aromatic plants. "We need to run a sustained campaign to make the farmers aware about the huge potential of herbs and medicinal plants so that they can harvest fruits of new green revolution," he said.
