Anyone picking up drone-dropped items is India’s biggest enemy, will be booked: DGP

SAMBA: Jammu and Kashmir's Director General of Police, RR Swain, described drone-dropped objects from across the border, such as weapons, drugs, and money, as a "new challenge" and warned anyone who tries to retrieve them of being the nation's greatest adversary and facing treason and terrorism charges. Speaking with media in Samba, he declared that anyone found in possession of drone-dropped weaponry would be "degraded and disincentivised" in line with the law if they are captured. "We consider anyone coming to pick up the weapons, ammunition, explosives, narcotics or money (dropped by drones) as the biggest enemy of the country and those caught accused will be booked for treason and terrorism of the highest level," he stated.The DGP referred to a meeting held in the Ministry of Home Affairs and stated that, given the technology of the device, conventional methods such as air defence systems fail to detect the movement of drones. As a result, the highest level of authority has been informed that many people can act as eyes and ears. The unmanned aerial vehicle sneaks in like a rat. When we learn about drone movements, we want a mechanism in place at the police station and police post level with the goal of responding as soon as feasible." In addition to obtaining information to pinpoint the precise moment the drone takes off, he stated that this technology should track and intercept these drones. He claimed that despite the strict security at the border, there were attempts to undermine the calm in the UT from across it. The J&K Police chief described them as a "emerging trend" and mentioned that in the recent past, tunnels were created in numerous locations to transport weapons and militants. He noted, "Drones are a new challenge now, and to counter these challenges, planning and strategy are needed." He said there was a difficulty being faced and that people's cooperation, area dominance, intellect, and investigation should be combined to make "their work so difficult that they will understand it is of no use." He pointed out that generalisations don't tell the whole story. When questioned about the recent upsurge in terrorist activity in the Poonch and Rajouri border regions, Swain stated, "Operational strategy does not allow revealing the number of active militants." "We don't discuss the figures because they don't provide context for the issue. A significant incident can be carried out by even two people ", he continued. According to him, people are crucial in overcoming these kinds of obstacles. In order to combat militancy, he continued, active collaboration with security services was being conducted. Numerous information are being received by security forces from residents in the Rajouri-Poonch districts. Individuals have become enmeshed with extremists themselves." Hope result will be better for opposition in 2024 LS polls: Mehbooba Mufti

SRINAGAR: Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the PDP, voiced optimism on Sunday that the opposition parties will fare better in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, given that the BJP looked to be headed for victory in three of the four states that just held elections. Speaking to reporters outside of a party conference in Kupwara, almost 100 kilometres away, Mufti stated that in the Assembly elections, the opposition parties would be up against the strength of the government, which included its investigative agencies, financial clout, and the Election Commission. "I sincerely hope that the opposition receives better results than these elections in the Lok Sabha polls in 2024," stated Mufti, the former chief minister of the state that was then known as Jammu and Kashmir."The power of the government, its agencies, money, and the Election Commission are on the one side when elections are held today," she remarked. The Election Commission released trends showing that the BJP was in the lead in 155 of the 230 Madhya Pradesh seats, 54 of the 90 Chhattisgarh seats, and 111 of the 199 Rajasthan seats. Mufti stated she had travelled to Kupwara to address the issues of the populace and declined to comment on the postponement of the elections in Jammu & Kashmir. "I had come here to hear about the people's issues and sufferings." When questioned about the postponement of the polls, she responded, "We will talk about elections another time." She also disputed rumours that the People's coalition for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) was divided among its members, claiming that the coalition was robust. "Minor altercations do occur, but the PAGD is robust," the spokesperson stated.
