ED Issues Fresh Summons To Jharkhand CM For Questioning In Money-Laundering Case

RANCHI, Dec 11: According to official sources, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren received a new summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday, demanding to be questioned in connection with a money-laundering case involving a purported land scam. According to the sources on Monday, Soren, 48, has been asked to appear in person at the federal agency's regional office in the Hinoo area of this city and have his statement recorded in accordance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The sources stated that the chief minister is being summoned on December 12.This is Soren's sixth notice, but he has never appeared in court because he filed a petition with the Supreme Court and then the Jharkhand High Court, claiming that the summons is "unwarranted" and asking for protection from the ED action. His petition was denied by both courts. The leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) had argued in the high court that the summons had been sent to him with "malice" and that the only reason they had been made was to incite political unrest and uncertainty in the state. He received the ED's first summons for August 14.A "huge racket of illegal change of ownership of land by mafia was going on in Jharkhand," according to the ED, which is the subject of the investigation. In this case, the agency has detained fourteen individuals, among them Chhavi Ranjan, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 2011 batch who previously held positions as deputy commissioner of Ranchi and director of the state's social welfare department. In November of last year, Soren was questioned by the ED regarding an additional money-laundering case that involved alleged illegal mining in the state. J&K BJP Welcomes SC Verdict Upholding Article 370 Abrogation

Jammu, Dec 11: Ravinder Raina, the president of the Jammu and Kashmir BJP, praised the Supreme Court's decision on Monday, stating that "we honour and respect the judgement in letter and spirit." The ruling upheld the annulment of Article 370. Nonetheless, G A Mir, a former president of the J-K Congress, stated that the party is reviewing the verdict and will make an announcement as appropriate. He claimed that in addition to guaranteeing special protections for the jobs and land for the residents of the Union Territory, the supreme court ought to have set a deadline for the restoration of statehood.On Monday, the Supreme Court affirmed the Centre's August 2019 decision to repeal Article 370, which gave the former state of Jammu and Kashmir special status, and ordered that measures be taken to hold Assembly elections by September 30 of the following year. The supreme court further ordered that Jammu and Kashmir's statehood be reinstated as soon as possible. "We take great pride in our nation, its constitution, and its top-notch judiciary globally. In letter and spirit, we honour and respect the Supreme Court's decision," Raina declared.He said that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister are obligated to fulfil their promises regarding the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood, even though the Central government has repeatedly stated that it is prepared to hold assembly elections. The Election Commission will make the final decision on this matter. Sunil Sethi, the chief spokesperson for the J-K BJP, stated that it is preferable to avoid politicising the supreme court's decision, which was in line with the aspirations of the nation as a whole. "This ruling is historic because it resolved the concerns expressed regarding J-K's full integration. Though some Kashmiris base their politics on this (Article 370), this fight was not political or community-focused, according to Sethi. According to Brig (Retd) Anil Gupta, a different BJP leader, the ruling by the Supreme Court would only upset those who benefited from the conflict. "Those who say that the people of J&K are not happy with the ruling made by the Supreme Court are telling falsehoods. They are capable of speaking for themselves. Who has given them the authority to speak for everyone in the country? He wrote on X, "Only beneficiaries of the conflict will be unhappy. When contacted, Congress leader Mir stated that the party is reviewing the decision and will release a statement in line with that assessment. He did, however, applaud the deadline for holding assembly elections and stated that a deadline for the restoration of statehood ought to have also been provided. Mir claimed that the Supreme Court ought to have advocated for the preservation of land and employment opportunities for Jammu and Kashmi residents. “Accept the inevitable” says former J&K Maharaja’s son Karan Singh as SC upholds abrogation of Article 370

NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Karan Singh, the son of the late Maharaja Hari Singh of Jammu and Kashmir, praised the Supreme Court's ruling confirming Article 370's repeal and urged everyone to "accept the inevitable." The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that no decision made by the Centre on behalf of a State may be challenged in court, upholding the Union Government's decision to repeal Article 370 of the Constitution, which granted Jammu and Kashmir special status. Singh also recommended that political parties in J&K move forward with their preparations for the upcoming elections rather than needlessly pushing themselves too far. Singh also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reinstate statehood."I'm glad to have it. It's evident now that whatever took place was lawful under the constitution.I ask Prime Minister Modi to quickly reestablish statehood "A section of people in J&K who will not be happy with this judgement, my sincere advice is that they should accept the inevitable and they should accept the fact that now this has been done and the Supreme Court has upheld the action and therefore there's no point now unnecessarily hitting their head against the wall," he continued. "I now advise them to focus their efforts on contesting the upcoming elections. People ought to be inspired there right now rather than becoming pessimistic," Karan Singh continued.
