New Delhi, Dec 12: In a written reply to the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Union Minister for State Home Affairs Nityanand Rai stated that, according to information provided by the Government of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, 46,631 families of Kashmiri migrants, totaling 1,57,967 individuals, are registered with the Relief Organisation (Migrant), J-K. These families were forced to leave the valley for security-related reasons.In response to questions from Lok Sabha MP Kalaben Mohanbhai Delkar, the MoS Rai informed the Lower House in writing that, according to information from the Government of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, 46,631 families of Kashmiri migrants, totaling 1,57,967 people, are registered with the Relief Organisation (Migrant), J-K. These families were forced to leave the valley for security reasons. A number of Kashmiri immigrant families have also relocated to other regions of the nation.Rai continued, "The government has taken a number of steps to rehabilitate the Kashmiri migrants back into the valley, including the 5,675 who have been given government jobs." MoS House Rai also stated in a written response that 6,000 transit accommodation units—of which 880 flats have been completed—are being built to house the Kashmiri migrants who receive government jobs in the Kashmir valley."In August 2021, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir opened an online portal through which migrants from Kashmir can file online complaints about encroachment, title changes, mutations, and distressed sales.
