NEW DELHI, Dec 28: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh claimed on Thursday that Chinese troops have been preventing Indian patrols from accessing the vital Depsang Plains, Demchok, and other areas in eastern Ladakh since May 2020, and that the government is attempting to conceal the greatest territorial setback against the nation in sixty years. Ramesh on X referenced a post by politician Konchok Stanzin, who is based in Ladakh. According to Stanzin, the Army demolished a landmark at the location of the fabled Rezang La battle during the 1962 Sino-Indian conflict in Ladakh as part of the disengagement process with China. Stanzin is a member of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council representing Chushul.The site where a memorial had been erected at the fall of Major Singh, as disclosed by Chushu Councillor Konchok Stanzin, was demolished because it was within the buffer zone that China had negotiated in 2021. Ramesh stated on X, "This is a great insult to the memory of Major Singh and the fallen heroes of Charlie Company. One of the most famous incidents in Indian military history, according to the Congress leader, is the defence of Rezang La by C Company of 13 Kumaon, under the command of the illustrious Major Shaitan Singh."This most shameful concession provides proof, if any proof was still needed, that the buffer zones negotiated by the Modi government are in territory previously controlled by India," the speaker declared. "The Modi government has been using the DDLJ strategy—deny, distract, lie, and justify—for the past four years in an attempt to hide the largest territorial loss for India in sixty years. The party general secretary stated, "Since May 2020, Chinese troops have persisted in preventing Indian patrols from entering the vital Depsang Plains, Demchok, and other areas in eastern Ladakh.He also refuted the claimed victory of India in the Doklam conflict in 2017 and mentioned China's increasing territorial incursions into Bhutan. "China has tightened its grip on Bhutanese territory in the last six years, raising the threat to India's Siliguri Corridor, also known as Chicken's Neck," stated Ramesh, "despite baseless claims of an Indian victory in Doklam in 2017." China is aware that the Prime Minister will continue to yield to Chinese salami-slicing tactics if he is permitted to claim PR victories.
