SAMBA: Locals around the renowned Mansar Lake in the Samba district have been concerned about the ongoing deaths of fish in the lake. According to the villagers, this has been happening nonstop for the past four days, and almost 2000 fish have already perished. The process of removing the fish from the lake is still ongoing. Every day, employees of the Wildlife Department remove dead fish from the water and bury them in a secure location since keeping them outside can pollute the area and spark an epidemic. Locals are quite concerned about the mass fish deaths in the lake, and they believe that a sickness is to blame for the high fish mortality rate. This has previously occurred at the well-known Mansar Lake, but because of their large quantity this time, many are afraid. The fish have began abruptly dying in the previous four days, according to Wildlife Department officers Bishamber Singh and Surinsar Mansar Range Officers. They were extremely few in number on the first day. The fish kept dying even though it appeared that this could not go on.“After that, we notified the Fisheries Department’s higher authorities and discovered that they had perished as a result of consuming hailstones during the rain.” They declared, “In order to prevent disease from spreading due to the bad smell, we are burying all the dead fish by digging a pit at a distance.”
