JAMMU, Feb 23: According to Jagdish Kumar, chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), this year’s Common University Entrance Test (CUET) would solve the problems that applicants encountered in the previous version. “The kids encountered a few problems, which have already been resolved. On the fringes of a national conference on New Education Policy being held today at IIM Jammu, he informed the media, “Last year, the exam was computer-based. However, this year, we are introducing OMR and the CUET will be conducted in hybrid mode so that colleges and schools are used as centres and our students get an opportunity to appear in the exam nearby.”Recall that Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha brought up the issue of Jammu and Kashmir’s lack of CUET exam centres to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan last year. He claimed that several candidates had been assigned centres outside the Union Territory, which were more than 300 kilometres distant. The UGC Chairman stated that prior university admissions were determined by board scores, which caused a great deal of stress for the students. However, he added that since CUET was implemented, stress levels have decreased and all students are now treated equally. He continued, “CUET has strengthened national integration and brought about complete transformation.” In order to address the issues of students, the UGC Chairman also advocated for the creation of grievance redressal committees and ombudsmen in colleges and universities.
