Nomination Process Begins for Budgam, Nagrota Assembly By-Elections

JAMMU: The nomination process for the Budgam and Nagrota Assembly by-elections began on Monday following the issuance of two separate notifications by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

According to the notifications, candidates can submit their nomination papers until October 20 for 27-Budgam and 77-Nagrota constituencies. The scrutiny of nominations will be conducted on October 22, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is October 24.

Polling for both constituencies is scheduled for November 11, and the counting of votes will take place on November 14, the ECI said.

The Budgam seat fell vacant on October 21, 2024, after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah opted to retain the Ganderbal constituency following his dual victory in the 2024 Assembly elections. The Nagrota seat became vacant after the demise of BJP MLA Devinder Singh Rana on October 31, 2024
