Nine Held for Gambling; ₹4.04 Lakh Cash and Four Vehicles Seized by Jammu (Rural) Police

JAMMU: In a major crackdown on illegal gambling, the Jhajjar Kotli Police under Jammu (Rural) Zone late last night apprehended nine persons engaged in gambling activities involving cards and dice during a routine patrol.

During the raid, the police recovered stake money (Tigdi) amounting to ₹1,07,180 from the spot, along with playing cards and dice. Upon conducting personal searches of the accused, an additional ₹2,97,300 in cash was recovered, bringing the total seizure to ₹4,04,480.

Police also seized four vehicles belonging to the accused that were parked at the scene:

Volkswagen Polo (Registration No. HR26BJ 4544)
Hyundai Creta (Registration No. JK02DJ 0025)
Mahindra XUV (Registration No. JK20 6566)
Audi A4 (Registration No. JK02CJ 0063)

All nine accused have been booked under Section 13 of the Gambling Act, and further investigation is underway.

A senior police officer said that the operation is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to curb social crimes and illegal gambling across rural Jammu.

“The police are maintaining strict vigil against unlawful activities and will continue taking stern action against those involved in such practices,” the officer said.
