New Delhi, Dec 18:According to sources, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) busted a “highly radicalised jihadi terror group” by conducting searches at 19 locations in South India. Since this morning, there have been raids. These raids are being carried out by the anti-terror agency in close cooperation with state police forces. For operational reasons, the sources who were aware of the development withheld information regarding the jihadi group’s identity and precise location. Most of the 19 locations the NIA is searching are connected to suspects who are part of the jihadi group. The sources claimed that the terror group was recruiting young people for its attacks and that it was actively carrying out anti-Indian activities. This action follows several days of NIA raids in Bengaluru, Karnataka, in connection with an investigation into the radicalization of detainees by a terrorist affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). As part of the NIA’s ongoing investigations into the case, six locations—including the homes of four accused—including one who is still at large—were thoroughly searched on December 13 (RC-28/2023/NIA/DLI). The premises linked to two additional suspects were among the other locations that were searched.During the raids at the homes of Mohammed Umar, Mohammed Faisal Rabbani, Tanveer Ahmed, and Mohammed Farooq, as well as the absconder Junaid Ahmed, the NIA teams found a number of digital devices, various incriminating documents, and cash totaling Rs 7.3 lakhs. Under different sections of the IPC, the UA(P) Act, 1967, and the Explosive Substances Act, 1884, three accused are currently at large.
