SRINAGAR: On Tuesday, terrorist Ashiq Ahmed Nengroo, who was able to infiltrate into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in 2018, was deemed a proclaimed criminal by an NIA court in the Pulwama area of Jammu and Kashmir. On an application filed by the Pulwama Police, the court declared Nengroo, also known as Molvi, a resident of Hanjan Bala in the Rajpora region of the district, a proclaimed offender. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs designated him as an Individual Terrorist in 2022. “An officer stated that after infiltrating into Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, he was able to provide weapons, drop drones, and hawala money to sustain terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.“His name has surfaced in many FIRs in recent times for approaching the local youths on social media, misguiding them to join the terrorist ranks and also taking them with weapons transport,” said the source. According to a police spokeswoman, the Jammu and Kashmir Police is pleading with young people not to be duped by activities such as receiving enigmatic WhatsApp messages that encourage them to pick up and drop off packages because doing so might land them in jail.
