NC’s Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan Wins Rajya Sabha Seat From J&K

Srinagar, Oct 24: National Conference (NC) senior leader and former minister Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan has been elected to the Rajya Sabha from Jammu and Kashmir, securing 58 votes, officials announced on Friday.
Ramzan’s victory marks the first declared result in the ongoing Rajya Sabha elections, which witnessed voting by 85 MLAs earlier in the day. Backed by the National Conference-led alliance, Ramzan secured a decisive mandate amid the party’s strong numerical advantage in the Legislative Assembly.
Highly placed sources said that the NC’s strength in the House ensured a smooth win for Ramzan, with two other party candidates also expected to sail through comfortably, while the BJP is likely to secure one seat.
After his win, Ramzan expressed gratitude to party president Dr. Farooq Abdullah, vice president Omar Abdullah, and alliance partners for their support and confidence, calling the victory “a mandate for safeguarding J&K’s political dignity and democratic voice.”
The counting for the remaining seats is currently underway, and official announcements are expected shortly.
