SRINAGAR: According to Omar Abdullah, vice president of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, only the NC will uphold the region’s rights, distinctive identity, and development-starved citizens. Speaking at a workers’ convention in Bandipora on Wednesday, Omar said that the National Conference has engaged in numerous conflicts on numerous fronts.“The other parties only discuss growth. Every government must operate in the field of development. We discuss progress as well, but we also discuss preserving our own identity,” he added. We have stated time and time again that growth and our rights are not mutually exclusive. Both must work together. Equally crucial to our right to basic amenities is our ability to live in dignity. Only we are juggling several projects at once,” Omar asserted. “We have also administered the J&K,” the former chief minister declared. Additionally, we assessed overages for the use of essential utilities like power and water, but we never put the onus on customers. People pay high taxes nowadays, but there is a lack of energy and water.” Omar cautioned the public to be on the lookout for opportunistic and conspiratorial elements. “They made a deal with Jammu and Kashmir in 2019, and these elements will not refrain from doing your deal again if needed in the future, as it is their habit and nature.” These individuals value their own interests over those of others. All they want is security, a car, and a bungalow for themselves. When we were detained in jails in 2019 and were not permitted to leave, these are the same folks that were freely moving around. These are the folks who reside in five-star establishments,” he claimed. After August 5, 2019, according to an NC leader, individuals with heightened security and those with less security shall be made clear to the public. “Today, security is not given on the basis of threat, but on the basis of how strong is your relationship with BJP? You will receive additional vehicles and security the more BJP buddies you become. You should know who these folks are if they witness you driving around in five or six extra cars after 2019.” Declaring once more that he will fight to restore Article 370, Abdullah stated that 80% of the population in Jammu and Kashmir now has the right to own land thanks to the agrarian reforms made possible by Article 370. “At the same time, when the idea was foreign to the nation, Sheikh Mohd Abdullah granted the populace the right to free education in schools, colleges, and universities. He claimed that because of these characteristics, “our enemies” were unable to understand Article 370 and were preparing to have it removed right now. Nazir Malik was the organiser of the convention. Among the others in attendance were senior leaders Ali Mohd Sagar, Shammi Oberoi, Nasir Aslam Wani, Mudassar Shahmiri, Javed Dar, Nazir Gurezi, and Showkat Mir.
