SHOPIAN, JANUARY 15: IEC activities under National Road Safety month were today kick-started at Shopian in a function organised by the Motor Vehicles Department, Shopian.
Month-long observance of the Road safety, which is being celebrated from January 15 to February 14, was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb at Mini-Secretariat, here.
Under the theme “Sadak Suraksha-Jeevan Raksha”, various activities were organised today on the inaugural day, majorly IEC activities. The DC flagged-off Vehicle Rally from Mini Secretariat, which transversed through the town and culminated at Mughal Road, near Helipad.
The DC also administered Road Safety Pledge to all drivers present including officers, officials and transporters etc, who resolved to uphold ideal driving practices and adhere to standard traffic rules.
Addressing the gathering, the DC said that the aim of observance of Road Safety Month is to emphasise on adherence of traffic laws and regulations in letter and spirit to avoid accidents thereby saving lives and resources.
The DC sought cooperation of stakeholders for imbibing the good driving and traffic practices, stressing that it is the moral responsibility of everyone, to spread Road Safety Practices among the masses for desired results.
Deliberations on the importance of use of helmets, avoiding use of Mobile phones during driving was stressed upon.
