POONCH:

Officials reported on Sunday that an alleged drug smuggler was hurt after Army personnel shot after spotting suspicious activity near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

The officials added that the suspected drug smuggler was apprehended and that a packet of drugs—possibly heroin—that he was attempting to smuggle was found in his possession.

According to them, the incident happened late on September 23 when soldiers manning the LoC saw a man acting suspiciously near Karmara in the Gulpur sector and confronted him.The officials identified the alleged drug smuggler as Yasir Nazir, local who claimed he had crossed the LoC to retrieve shipment of narcotics, and they claimed that he attempted to flee across the LoC and was fired upon. According to the officials, Nazir was taken into custody by the police and hospitalised for the treatment of his gunshot wounds.
