Mukesh Ambani receives fresh threatening emails for ignoring previous demand

MUMBAI: Mumbai police reported on Saturday that Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries, had received new threat emails that threatened to punish him severely if he disregarded earlier communications requesting Rs 400 crore in extortion. Two threatening emails with the sender identifying himself as Shadab Khan were received between October 31 and November, according to the police. “Industrialist Mukesh Ambani received two threat emails once again between October 31 and November 1, warning him of serious consequences for ignoring previous emails wherein the person (sender of the mail) had demanded Rs 400 crore,” according to cops.Ambani has previously received emails threatening to shoot him to death if he didn’t pay the Rs 20 crore. Then, every time an email was received, the ransom kept going up to Rs 200 crore and Rs 400 crore. Mumbai police had previously stated that the first such threatening email had been issued on October 28. “The sender cites lack of response to the prior email and increases the ransom,” they added. Following receipt of the email, the Mumbai Gamdevi Police filed case against an unidentified individual under sections 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) and 387 (putting person in fear of death or grievous hurt in order to commit extortion) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in response to the complaint of Mukesh Ambani’s security in-charge.
