More than 6,200 pilgrims leave Jammu for Amarnath Yatra

JAMMU: Officials said, the 15th batch of more than 6,200 Amarnath pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp here early on Monday morning amid tight security.Since the yearly pilgrimage began on July 1, as many as 2,29,221 pilgrims have made their way to the Amarnath shrine to offer their respects. A total of 6,648 pilgrims set out for the twin base camps in Kashmir in a convoy of 241 cars in order to continue their journey to the 3,880-meter-high cave shrine of Lord Shiva. According to officials, at 3.30 am and 3.45 am, respectively, a convoy of 109 cars carrying 2,998 pilgrims left for the Baltal base camp while a convoy of 132 vehicles carrying 3,686 pilgrims going for Pahalgam did the same. Beginning on July 1 from the twin tracks of Pahalgam in the Anantnag district and Baltal in the Ganderbal district, the 62-day annual pilgrimage began.The yatra is scheduled to conclude on August 31.
