Mehbooba Mufti after NIA sought death penalty for separatist leader : Yasin Malik’s case must be reviewed, reconsidered

SRINAGAR : Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik‘s case must be reviewed and reconsidered as in a democracy like India even the assassins of a Prime Minister were pardoned. Her comments come the day after the NIA requested the death penalty be applied to the separatist leader, who was given a life sentence by a Delhi trial court in a case involving funding for terrorism last year. Mehbooba further criticised Altaf Bukhari, a former party member and cabinet member, and asserted that those who were jubilantly in favour of Malik’s death presented a severe threat to “our collective rights.” The Apni Party’s Bukhari remarked that individuals attempting to endanger the nation’s security should face deterrent measures. “It is necessary to look into and judge Yasin Malik’s case in a democracy like India, where even the assassins of a prime minister were pardoned.. Mehbooba stated on Twitter that the new political ikhwan who are enthusiastically applauding his hanging pose a serious threat to our collective rights. The Kashmiri separatist commander should be executed, according to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which filed a petition with the Delhi High Court on Friday. They claim that failing to execute such a “dreaded terrorist” will lead to a miscarriage of justice. On May 29, a bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Talwant Singh will hear the NIA’s appeal. The NIA’s request for the death penalty for Yasin Malik underlines how urgent it is to stop Jammu and Kashmir from being used to finance terrorism. In order to protect the security of our country, we must ensure that justice is served and that deterrent actions are taken against those who attempt to do so, Bukhari stated on Twitter.
